Well worth the effort... AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE
Let me start off by saying that it has been a rollercoaster ride with this mattress. Okay, so why the 5 stars, you ask? Well, I will tell you why. When it arrived, everything was great. It was packaged well. Vacuumed sealed so tight I didn't think it would ever unroll right. I gave it the full 72 hours to inflate. That's when the problems occurred. At 75 hours, the mattress had barely inflated to 8 inches. For reference, I bought the 10-inch. And I know sometimes that the measurements can be a bit off, so I considered it my fault for being such a cheap arse and not forking out for the 12 or 14. My reasoning: I was gonna get a topper at some point and I don't want to be like Princess and tf-ng Pea in a room with a low ceiling. I waited another day. Measured again. No sign of movement. I tried to contact the seller and, well anyone who has tried doing anything on Amazon knows how wonderful that is. Instead of giving me the seller, it sent me ring around the rosy with processing a return. I cannot tell you how many times I made it clear that I did NOT want to send it back and I did NOT want a refund. I only wanted help in trying to resolve this issue myself. I felt it was something that could be fixed. If it came to it, then we could talk about credits or refunds. This went on for over an hour. I finally managed somehow to be taken to the manufacturer's website and, once again went through the drama of "No, I don't want to return it and I don't want a refund. I just want help." I finally reached a human being at some point. A person by the name of Maverick contacted me and suggested I set the mattress on the floor and roll around or walk on it a bit. Apparently, sometimes the memory foam doesn't want to decompress all the way. These actions tend to help. I wrote back to him every time there was movement. 9 inches. 9.5 inches. I was so excited the day after my roommate slept on it that it got all the way up to 10 inches inflated! I immediately fired off a note to Maverick to let him know and to thank him for the suggestions. He was patient and told me exactly what needed to be done and why. It never even occurred to me that sometimes memory foam just "be that way" and you have to sort of give it a boost. All that said, I've been sleeping on it now for about a month. It's probably the most firm memory foam I've ever owned, and I probably could have done well with one a bit squishier, but this is fine. I got exactly what I ordered. I'm not gonna complain about that. I don't see any evidence of fiberglass, as mentioned in another review. Of course, I don't ever intent to remove the protective cover and will instead have one on top of it at some point. It being several inches more shallow than other mattresses I've owned, let me just tell you know... it puts them to shame! My previous mattress, same brand, was a 12-inch and not nearly as firm. It had edge issues where you'd fall to the floor if you weren't careful. I don't see that being an issue with this one. It's fairly sturdy sitting on the edge and I imagine that if I had access to the corners they would be the same #sleighbed. And my previous mattress, you could feel the metal slats underneath every freaking time you turned. It was awful. I had to put sheets of plywood down to keep from being gored in the night. With this mattress though?? I don't feel a dang thing. Granted the slats on this bed are wooden and not metal, even when I pounce on the bed, I don't feel a thing - just snuggliness. I'm waiting for my bed to break if I do that again though - for reference, I'm about 345lbs. Do you have any idea what that does to a bed if you just pounce on it like a lion on the Serengeti? Apparently, nothing (knock on wood). The mattress absorbs the impact. I would be confident with dropping an egg from a skyscraper onto this mattress. That is how awesome it is. It didn't have any sort of weird odor when I removed it from its wrapping. The only thing that sort of made it difficult to get any help was that the date of manufacture was missing from the tag when I was trying to get assistance from the manufacturer. If anyone has to deal with that, just take a picture of the tag anyway to prove that it is blank. It'll help you out in the long run. If I'm ever in the market for a mattress again any time soon, I am definitely purchasing this one - as long as it's available. I can sleep at night. It doesn't aggravate my low back pain or even my hip pain. I'm actually grateful it isn't as squishy as I would like because then my problem would be never wanting to get out of bed. Heck, even with my weight (when lying down) I barely sink into the mattress. And at least now I can wake up in the morning and go about my day without feeling as though my body has been hit by a truck and all I want to do is stay in bed. Very happy with this purchase!

Premium Cooling and Safety, but Brace for a Very Firm Sleep
The Zinus 12-Inch Green Tea Cooling Memory Foam Mattress (New Version) is an outstanding choice for eco-conscious sleepers who prioritize cooling technology and safety. While marketed as "Medium Firmness," user feedback consistently highlights that this "New Version" leans significantly toward the very firm side of the spectrum. Key Features and Performance Cooling Gel Integration: The top layer features cooling gel-infused memory foam, which is "super effective" at regulating body temperature and preventing the "sleeping hot" issue common with traditional memory foam. Fiberglass-Free Construction: A major highlight of the "New Version" is the fiberglass-free inner cover. It uses a safer fire retardant, providing peace of mind for those worried about skin irritation or indoor air quality. Certified Safe: The foams are CertiPUR-US certified, ensuring they are made without harmful chemicals, and the fabric is OEKO-TEX certified to be free from harmful substances. Mattress in a Box: The convenience of shipping is high; it arrives compressed and expands quickly, though it is recommended to let it air out for 48–72 hours for full expansion and scent dissipation. The "Firmness" Factor Despite the "Medium Firm" label, this mattress provides high-level support that may feel rigid to side sleepers or those who prefer a "sinking" cloud-like feel. Best for: Back and stomach sleepers who need spinal alignment and a solid surface. The Challenge: If you are a side sleeper, you may find the lack of "give" around your shoulders and hips uncomfortable without an additional topper. Final Verdict If you are looking for a durable, safe, and cool mattress that offers heavy-duty support, this Zinus model is a top-tier budget pick. However, be prepared—this is a very firm mattress that prioritizes support over plushness.

Expanded Perfectly - Reviewed 6 Months Later
I have had the same mattress for the past 5 years, and it came to me already five years old. I admit, as a night owl I didn't consider that I might have a more challenging time going to sleep at night because my bed was uncomfortable. I got a mattress topper for Christmas, and it helped a bit, but I didn't notice a huge difference. When my friend mentioned she'd bought a new mattress under similar circumstances, I began searching for a new one immediately. As a student, I obviously cannot really afford to drop $1000 on those fancy mattresses people kept recommending. The Zinus mattress caught my eye because A) it was recommended on just about every site I looked for "High-quality, affordable mattresses," and B) I have a 2-year-old Zinus bedframe that I love and has served me so well. I've had the mattress for a few days now and although it arrived a bit too firm for my liking, it has since softened. Granted, I spent some time walking on it to break it down faster. I expect the mattress to become even softer as it continues to modify to my body shape. Mattress preferences are extremely subjective, but for a 120-pound female, this mattress feels heavenly to me. I've been so excited about how it feels that I'm spending a lot of time in my bed and trying to go to bed earlier. I'm biased toward the brand but I will modify this review if I notice the quality of the mattress degrading. It’s been six months since I purchased this mattress and it has been such a game changer. It’s so comfy that it’s sent me down a rabbit hole of getting new, equally as comfy bedding to accommodate it. My bed is my favorite place in the world right now. I think for me this seemed like one of those too good to be true things because a mattress in a box is a weird concept for sure, but I’ve not had a single issue with it in the time I’ve had it. To anybody on the fence, there’s so many mattresses out there that purport to be one thing or another or the best in the business and the truth is it’s so subjective. But I don’t think the expense of a product has to equate to its quality. The $1000 mattresses aren’t necessarily better sometimes. This mattress was affordable and has proven itself. I’m very happy with the purchase

Inconsistent firmness, but when firm they are great
I’ve ordered this bed probably 6 times now. 3 times I’ve had issues with the order. Summary: if you happen to get one of the firm ones they are amazingly comfortable and a good price. As well as long lasting as my 2016 one is still good as new comfort wise. That being said there seems to be some decent quality variability issues where you might get a bed that might as well be a soft couch cushion. Worth the price when you get one of their firm ones. Not sure how to avoid this without returning and rebuying until you luck into the good ones. Quality/Order timeline: 2016: Ordered Queen 12 inch bed for myself and it said delivered but was not there. Reordered after refund and it was an amazing bed. Very firm and comfortable. And even today it holds up as my guest bedroom mattress. I’ve had multiple people comment on how good it is and my mom even got one after this after she loved it (from me). 2020: Bought 2 more 12 inch queens for my family’s house and they were great. 2021: Bought 1 for my brother who lived with me for some time and when it was delivered it was really soft. Like the softest bed your can find and the edge support was terrible. I have no idea how the original firmness could change so much but I thought it was a fluke so I returned and reordered through amazon. The replacement was firmer but still not as firm as original. We decided to keep it as he was not picky. 2023: I order my mom a king 12 inch for her birthday. It arrived great and was super firm like the original. She loves it. 2024: With my mom’s success I decide to upgrade my bedframe and get a king myself. The mattress they send me is embarrassingly soft. If I sit on the edge I sink all the way down to my bedframe laying in the center is still not comfortable but not as bad as the edge. I decide to return it to Amazon to rebuy it as I assume it’s a quality issue. They send me another and it’s the exact same thing, really soft. Sincd then I’ve had trouble sleeping, neck pains, and because the top edge sags it makes it harder to sleep right with reflux since my head is often tilted down a bit. The edge support is absolutely terrible on the new 12 inch king I got and the center is still not as firm as the original one I bought or my moms recently. I decided to return it this week. I know zinus/amazon will take my king back again and let me rebuy but it’s a pain each time to unbox, try out, and return. Not to mention they almost certainly throw away the ones I send back. So unless zinus can guarantee the firmness of another order, for the sake of avoiding waste and effort I won’t buy this mattress again. It’s a shame as the original one was my absolute favorite mattress.

Great price for a medium firm mattress, and NO smell!
Based on the reviews, we thought we would try this mattress when it went on sale. I found our previous Sealy mattress to be too firm, especially when sleeping on my side. Delivery: The 12" medium-firmness mattress arrived quickly, deposited outside our garage door in a slightly beat-up cardboard box. My husband used a furniture dolly to get the boxed mattress into the house, and we let it warm up overnight. The dolly made it relatively easy to get the 78-pound box around the house. Unpacking: Others have warned that the sealed mattress should be in place before opening, and we placed it on our bed the next morning. After carefully opening the plastic outer seal, it slowly began expanding and unrolling, but not explosively. Unfortunately, the mattress was packaged and rolled so that it was upside down when it opened, so the first order of business was to flip it over (I suggest that manufacturer reorient the way they roll the mattress). We then slipped the inner plastic wrapping off. Smell (or NO smell!): My husband has a very sensitive sense of smell, and he noticed nothing! So, the manufacturer must have made some changes to the product to address the smell that others have noticed. Expanding and firmness: We left the bare mattress on the bed all day, so it could expand and air out, and we only put the cover and sheets on at bedtime. It had not fully expanded but it seemed to be on the second day. Both of us found it to be firm but accommodating, and it slowly molded to our bodies. My husband finds it perhaps too firm, so we'll see if it changes with time. We found the edges to be quite firm and noticed no problem sitting on the edge. Although the mattress is advertised as "cooling", neither one of us could discern any difference from our previous pillow-top mattress. There seems to be no motion transfer at all. Size: As others have noted, the mattress is larger than a conventional king mattress, and it hangs over on the end and a bit on the sides. Our mattress cover and fitted sheets do not quite fit because of this. I gave the mattress 4* because of the size (how difficult is it to make it a standard size?). It remains to be seen how it will last, but, for the sale price on Presidents' Day, it seems like a good buy.

This Mattress is Heaven
Alright foks, this mattress is the real deal. I rarely write reviews but this one definitely deserves 5+ stars. In 2017 I first bought a Zinus 12" full size green tea memory foam mattress for $193 and I have slept on it ever since. Yes, 2017, it's hard for me to even believe. This mattress has been an unreal dream. I have friends that spent thousands of dollars on beds and mattresses, and I just couldn't get myself to follow them. On a whim for a budget mattress, I found Zinus some 8 years ago, and boy what a sweet little blessing. This thing feels the opposite of a budget mattress, it is pure luxury. Everything is just as expected. 12" tall memory foam, keep in mind it is firm (which is how I like it) but it got me through some tough times because I always knew I had my bed. I was a little leery on buying a new one, worried if the quality was the same after so many years, but I upgraded to the Queen 12" a month ago and I gotta tell you...This thing rocks! Same quality, same luxury, I'm so happy and excited to get into my bed. $319 with delivery from Amazon, how can you beat that? Give those delivery guys some cold water, they'll take it inside for you if you ask. I recommend letting it inflate for 48 hours after you unpackage it. If you're worried it's not expanding, it will continue growing after you sleep on it. Flip it every time you wash your sheets, it will feel brand new and last you for years. I would consider myself a tough critic for reviews, but I cannot recommend this mattress enough.

Making Mattress Stores Sad & Obsolete Everywhere.
Bought this for the guest room, but after trying it myself for one night, I think this will replace our other conventional mattresses in the future. First impression: surprisingly firm, yet delightfully comfy as the foam slowly adapts to your body. Next morning: you are in memory foam heaven, all your muscles are relaxed & smiling, and you do not want to get out of bed. Ever again. My guests may never leave. I might even pick a fight with my sweet boyfriend, just to get to sleep in the guest room again. The cooling gel adds firmness to what is already a well designed support system, and the memory foam gives such an indulgent, luxurious comfort, you’ll wonder if you’ve sleepwalked to a fancy hotel. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if every hotel chain started buying these. With a mattress this good, for a price this low, there is no excuse for any uncomfortable mattresses to exist anymore. I’ve only had mine for a month, but I’ve heard great things about durability from friends and other users, and with a 10 year warranty, this is a pretty low risk investment. Setup is a 2 person job, unless you just really like a comedic challenge. It is fun to open the box, roll it out on the bed, and watch it poof up. All poofed up, it looks exactly like any other mattress, and the size and fit dimensions are as expected. Give it a few days to fully “off-gas” before using it. It does firm up in the first few days. And please, if you can, try to recycle your old mattress responsibly- there are many orgs doing great things to keep them out of landfills, for the same price that that sad old mattress store was going to charge you to take your old mattress away to a landfill, after they sold you an overpriced, less comfortable mattress. You will never go back into a mattress store once you’ve tried this new mattress.

Very good quality for the price; happy with purchase
Great for the price! We recently discovered Zinus at a renovated mom 'n pop motel; great night's sleep there. Since buying our own, we've found it's more firm than medium. Great for back sleeping. To make side sleeping comfortable, we ordered a 3" cooling gel/memory foam topper which should do the trick. We have a similar topper on a different brand mattress. 10" thickness seems adequate for medium-size adult. No box spring needed. Seems cool enough. Will update this review later, after experience with the 3 inch topper. UPDATE: Adding a 3-inch cooling gel memory foam topper made this bed perfectly comfortable/soft enough for side sleeping! 😴
