I love this book! Dr. Leskowitz gives us a survey of how subtle energies have been respected and utilized for healing and empowerment by many cultures throughout history, including our own. This is an indicator that the utilization of subtle energies, and recognition of their power, is universal and not limited to bizarre or obsolete cultures. Thus, spiritual experiences involving subtle energies are not just manifestations of obsolete or ignorant cultures--but involve all of humanity and may be highly sophisticated, even surpassing our own knowledge bases. Dr. Leskowitz portrays conventional medicine, including psychiatry, as not yet embracing this fact. And, although he clearly shows this--he is not conflictual, rather offering an invitation to conventional healthcare providers to expand their beliefs and skill-sets and recognize fully that subtle energies play a vast role in health as well as personal growth. This book is well-grounded in scientific research and rational thinking, as befits a psychiatrist who was supervising Harvard Medical School students interested in integrative mental health.

The academic community is actively investigating energy dynamics relating to physiology and the human biofield. Dr. Leskowitz is a pioneer who over the decades championed the investigation and appropriate treatment methodologies to the Harvard University Health System. This indispensable book is a thorough review of energy dynamics in health and disease which is quite comprehensive and is a must read for anyone, professional or consumer, with an interest in health and healthcare.

Dr. Leskowitz wears his erudition lightly. The Mystery of Life Energy is delightfully informative about the human bio-field, a phenomenon that conventional medicine consistently and foolishly discounts. If energy medicine were at the center rather than the periphery of health care we would all be much healthier and closer to living fulfilled lives. This is a feel good book with punch.

Right from the get-go, Rick captured my imagination and took it on a historical ride through the rocky evolution of energy medicine, including the deep and disruptive paradigm it represents. Western medicine vilifies this paradigm shift while, at the same time, failing to disprove what the heck is going on with this energy-healing hocus-pocus.For personal reasons, I particularly enjoyed Chapter 7, entitled "The Zone." Rick closely looks at human peak experiences from his experiences as "a fair-to-middling high school tennis player " to a highly experienced empirical scientist. The combination of empirical and experiential knowledge makes The Mystery of Life Energy a book well worth reading, especially if you're not opposed to examining your views on hocus-pocus.In 2012, Rick and David Meggyesy co-founded the Sports, Energy, and Consciousness Group, where we first met and where I was first introduced to the science behind the energy work Rick had been doing for years. Since then, I have become a believer in what I once thought was woo-woo but now know to be very real. Several sessions with a "Therapeutic Touch" practitioner convinced me of the power of energy healing. The proof is in the pudding, right? Rick organizes the historical pudding of a long line of energy workers who have ventured into The Mystery of Life Energy while adding a humorous touch along the way. Kudos to you, Rick!

This book is such a great overview on what energy is and how to work with it, with plenty of research and examples to make a non-believer actually believe! It's easy to read and really demonstrates the power of harnessing energy, to heal a body or simply to shift outcomes. As more and more people are awakening to the concepts of energy, I believe this book will become a classic. Dr. Leskowitz has done an excellent job in depicting the many facets of energy - I highly recommend!

This book has had a significant influence on my life. I have become much more aware of the energy all around and within me. This energy connects us to all beings and all the stuff of life. I now more fully recognize and appreciate its significance and am more connected to the interbeing of all phenomena. A gift indeed.
