KS-950 Kant-Slam Hydraulic Gate Closer, Black

Although a few of the reviews stated that it was not straightforward to fit, I tried it anyway. And, I am glad that I did. It is an 'horses for courses' piece of kit to fit and requires some thought as to what sort of gate and fitting you have. My gate has center of post (not edge of post) hinges, so it is necessary to assemble the hinge part, without the springs, and work out where it fits to operate correctly. After that, the rest is easy and it works a treat. Everything is supplied for the fitting, so no searching around for the odd screw etc. Not cheap but it works. No slamming, opening or closing.

This is a great product, it works perfectly. It is also adjustable to fine-tune the closing speed. I have installed two of these on different style gates, one is a 49 inch wide gate to my backyard and the other was installed on a 6 foot wide driveway gate. In both installations the mechanism works well. The driveway installation was done several years ago and it still works perfectly. The manufacturer should make two changes: 1. Improve the written instructions and make a YouTube video showing the installation. Installation is simple, but the instructions are poorly written. 2. The metal shipping clip that must be removed after installation should be painted bright yellow instead of black. Then the instructions should clearly say to remove the yellow metal clip after installation.

Pros: It closes the gate securely every time. Easily adjustable ensuring the gate closes completely but not too hard Attractive hardware (Our HOA is very narrow on what they’ll allow. It was approved quickly). The installation wasn’t difficult (a little fussy, See Below). Cons: Our daughter complains that the gate is now hard to open (You can’t have everything). The installation instructions are not well written. I’ll grant you the instructions for installing the unit are not the easiest to follow. My wife (who is very mechanically inclined) and I sat down at the kitchen table and worked through the assembly with all the parts prior to the actual install. Once we were outside at the gate, the install went reasonably quickly (with a couple caveats). With some of the brackets, the order you put the screws in and tighten them matters. The hardware would block access to some of the screw-holes once the bracket was secured. Spreading the cotter pin was a tad tricky because there wasn’t much room to work. We’ve had the unit up for two months now, and everything is still working perfectly. The gate closed firmly and securely every time. The kids are no longer slamming the gate, which is helping all the gate hardware stay intact. We're very happy with the purchase.

This gate closer works great on my wrought iron gate. The adjustable closure speed is a nice feature. Initially it had too much resistance to open the gate. I detached one of the two springs and it now opens and closes easily.

Took us the better of 2 Sundays to get this installed on a wrought iron gate. (Should clearly state that the instructions are only for wooden fences). Had to find and cut and drill a metal plate to mount to the gate. Also had to mount the bracket in the centre, not 1/2” from the end as stated. Watched many YouTube videos before inventing our own mount. Now that it’s installed, it works GREAT! Auto closes every time. We’ve had issues with guests leaving the gate open and we have a horse and 2 puppies that can get out. This was a lifesaver. Pleased we could figure out how to get it to work on our gate.

Good product. Terrible instructions. Some visual instructions would have helped instead of the confusing text. You need to make sure before you install the spring/hydraulic cylinder that the gate will open all the way. It says 3/4” from the end but doesn’t say which end. Make sure your gate will move freely with the arm installed first. The videos on the Internet aren’t very helpful either. You need to spend some time really understanding how the mechanism works.
