I really wanted to like this phone—it has a clean design, focuses on digital minimalism, and initially felt like a solid choice. I purchased it directly from the Punkt Online Store in November 2024, expecting reliability and thoughtful support from a company touting simplicity. But after the manufacturer pushed a software update that broke Bluetooth entirely, things unraveled. This wasn’t a minor bug—it meant I could no longer connect to headphones, my car’s audio system, or other basic accessories. Support acknowledged that the update caused the issue but provided no clear fix or timeline. Making matters worse, Punkt only releases updates every 6–8 months—so I may be left with a crippled device for half a year or longer. Bluetooth isn’t a luxury anymore—it’s a core feature. Losing it severely degrades the phone’s usability, and the lack of urgency from support only compounds the problem. If you rely on Bluetooth or expect prompt issue resolution from your device maker, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

I really wanted to give this phone a good rating when I ordered it - I am very privacy-conscious and the idea behind this phone intrigued me. However a few things prevent me from outright recommending this phone. The best summary I can give of the issues with this phone are - it's too expensive for the features it provides. It runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 900 chipset, which first showed up in Androids back in 2022, and those phones were priced around $300 at the time. This phone isn't slow, but it's not as fast as a $700 phone should be. I could overlook that if the privacy features were really well-executed, but they're not. In order to use most of the privacy features that this device advertises, you'll need to sign up for an Apostrophy services account. This phone includes a "1 year free trial", which allows you access to the "built-in VPN" on this device, as well as a personal mailbox, ending with @aphy.io. After the year free trial is up, this service costs a whopping 15 CHF ($16.50 USD at time of writing) per month!! That's a hard sell, when it hasn't been made clear why this VPN service is any better than the thousands of cheaper VPN providers on the market. I'll also mention that their VPN offers a very paltry three endpoints to choose from, the US, Germany, and Japan. As for the webmail, I don't really want to migrate everything tied to my email over to a service that is new, untested, and expensive. At the end of the day, you're just choosing who to place your trust in, with regards to your data security, and as far as I know, Apostrophy services hasn't been independently audited like a lot of VPN providers have, their webmail portal is just a reskin of an open source webmail app called Roundcube, and they haven't really given me any reasons to trust them over "Big Tech" companies. The idea for this phone may be well-intentioned, but I just wouldn't recommend it as it is today.

If you want phone that is really privacy focused and doesn't have the latest and greatest hardware this is for you. Or if you are at tech person and want to tinker with it. Wont compare to iPhone, most Samsung, or Pixel phones in terms of hardware (camera, videos,etc). Very privacy focused. The Punkt MC02 runs on an operating system called Apostrophy. It’s based on Graphene OS, another privacy-conscious operating software. Apostrophy builds upon the foundation of Graphene OS and adds its own secure apps to the phone, such as contacts, storage, email, files, tasks, and more. It also offers a Digital Nomad VPN app to protect browsing data. The data from all the Apostrophy apps is stored in servers located in Switzerland, no matter where you use the phone. The EU is famous for its strict data protection laws, and that’s why the company insists on banking data on Swiss servers. Monthly subscription after the first year (to keep the privacy features/VPN). So it will be cell phone bill plus the subscription. No eSIM capability. The Google Store/apps are not installed by default. You can install if you want (use the GMS wizard on the phone). Some folks will say having Google Store/apps will risk your privacy. No offline FM radio. And for some reason ESET anti-theft doesn't work

There's a lot to like about this phone. It is very security forward and takes your privacy very seriously. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack, something we don't see in phones these days. There's a MicroSD card slot, also missing from present day phones. The android build (Apostrophy OS) included with the phone is very secure, highly customizable and feature rich. The built-in VPN is very nice and works well blocking ads. The screen is sharp, but it's IPS and not OLED so it's not as nice looking as the Samsung phones. The side fingerprint reader is quick and works 99% of the time. Much better than those behind the screen readers. The bottom line is, if you are looking for the latest and greatest, super fast and super sharp camera, then this phone is not for you. But if you are concerned about your privacy and would like to stay more anonymous with your digital life, this phone is definitely for you.

I got this phone as a backup since my phones keep breaking and crapping out. I'm an Android user who enjoys the apps I have access to but can't stand all the fluff on the phones. This is perfect for when I just want to use a phone or the internet without having my every move tracked. I'm happy with the quality of the phone. It feels nice and durable. I haven't found a case for it yet but I haven't minded so much. It's not to easiest to use and set up but there are many resources to help you do that. It took me a bit of time and patience to do it. I say it's worth it if you want to enjoy having a cell phone like we had in the early 2000s.

Das schweizer Nischen-Handy Punkt MC02 hat eine durchaus moderne Optik und liegt gut in der Hand. Das Gehäuse ist 77,8 x 165,9 Millimeter groß und knapp 10,9 Millimeter dick. Das verbaute Display ist 6,67 Zoll groß und hat eine Auflösung von 1.080 x 2.400 Pixeln. Es geizt für diesen Preis etwas mit der Hardware. Sicherheit hin oder her, es muss immer noch Spaß machen, ein Device zu bedienen und bei mir kommt mit einem 60Hz-Display bei einem 700€ teuren Handy kein Spaß auf, tut mir leid. Leider kommt als Prozessor nur ein MediaTek Dimensity 900 zum Einsatz, der auf einen nur sechs Gigabyte großen LPDDR5-Arbeitsspeicher zugreifen kann. Die Performance ist für alltägliche Dinge ok, der Prozessor kommt aber durchaus öfter an seine Grenzen. Bei dem Betriebssystem handelt es sich bei Apostrophy um einen Abo-Service, welcher ein Jahr lang im Preis inklusive ist und danach monatlich zu Buche schlägt. Ein großes Problem für Käufer besteht jedoch darin, die Daten auf dem Telefon in das schon vorhandene digitale Ökosystem zu integrieren. Kurz gesagt, das geht leider nicht wie gewünscht. Es ist zwar möglich, den Google Play Store und dann Apps von dieser Quelle zu installieren. Diese werden aber vom System in einer Sandbox gespeichert, um das System vor ihnen zu schützen. Ohne diese Funktionen ist das MC02 jedoch nicht in der Lage, auf die Daten mehrerer Clients zuzugreifen, da derzeit nur auf diesem Telefon Apostrophy OS läuft. Das ist nur dann in Ordnung, wenn Sie niemals Bilder, Kontakte oder E-Mails teilen, Man kann das Handy auch ohne den ganzen Sicherheitskram normal einrichten, wobei es es mir dann in der Form für 700€ einfach zu wenig bietet...

Il sistema operativo del telefono, Apostrophy OS, è progettato per offrire una maggiore sicurezza dei dati personali, permettendo agli utenti di installare il Google Play Store attraverso un processo chiamato sideloading, sebbene questo possa essere piuttosto laborioso e richieda una gestione attiva delle impostazioni di privacy e dell'utilizzo dei dati. La scelta di un design a schermo prevalentemente in bianco e nero potrebbe essere intenzionale per disincentivare un uso eccessivo del dispositivo. Tuttavia, la qualità costruttiva e la durata potrebbero non essere all'altezza di altri smartphone, con una garanzia limitata a solo due anni e nessuna specifica menzione di resistenza all'acqua, alla polvere o agli urti​. Le specifiche interne includono il processore MediaTek Dimensity 900 e 6 GB di RAM, che risultano in prestazioni mediocri con ritardi nell'apertura delle app e rallentamenti notevoli. Nonostante il telefono supporti la ricarica wireless, il caricatore non è incluso, e il telefono offre una capacità di batteria modesta che può risultare insufficiente per un uso prolungato senza ricarica. In conclusione, il Punkt MC02 potrebbe attrarre gli utenti molto attenti alla privacy e a chi cerca un approccio più etico e consapevole all'uso della tecnologia, ma molti potrebbero trovare che non offre un buon rapporto qualità-prezzo rispetto ad altri dispositivi nel suo range di prezzo, che offrono hardware più avanzato e funzionalità migliori.

Die Idee, die hinter diesem neuen Handy steckt, ist für mich innovativ und weist den Weg in die Zukunft. Von der Hardware ein sehr gutes Gerät, auf dem Stand der Zeit. Aber dem Hersteller Punkt ging es hier um die Software, welche mit dem neuartigen Betriebssystem Apostrophy OS dem Nutzer ein Höchstmaß an Sicherheit gibt. Geliefert wird es mit Anleitung und Ladekabel. Von der Handhabung ist es gängigen Handys recht ähnlich und man kann es auf diese Weise sehr schnell bedienen. Nach dem ersten Einschalten wird man durch die Einrichtung geführt und findet sich auch schnell mit den neuen Apps von Punkt zurecht. Da das Betriebssystem Android sehr verbreitet ist, gibt es hier auch über die App GMS Wizard die Möglichkeit über Google Play seine gewünschten Android-Apps zu installieren. Dies empfinde ich derzeit, in der Apostrophy OS noch nicht sehr weit verbreitet ist als sehr hilfreich. So kann man die Vorzüge beider Systeme voll nutzen. Wer möchte, kann über den Hersteller ein Abonnement abschließen, welches den Nutzer in der Sicherheit und Datenschutz durch weitere Tools deutlich verbessert. Hier ist dann auch ein VPN Zugang enthalten. Das erste Jahr des Abonnements ist bereits im Kaufpreis enthalten. Die weitere Nutzung darüber hinaus liegt derzeit bei 15 Franken monatlich. Nach meiner bisherigen Übersicht möchte ich zum Abschluss des Abonnements raten, da hier in der Sicherheit der eigenen Daten die besondere Qualität des Betriebssystems steckt und man so dieses neue Handy bestmöglich nutzen kann. Wie oben schon kurz beschrieben, hat das Handy alles an Bord, was man von einem guten und aktuellen Gerät erwarten kann, dazu gehört u.a. die Nutzung des 5 G Netzes, eine völlig ausreichenden 128 GB Speicher, einen 6 GB Arbeitsspeicher und die Möglichkeit zur Nutzung von 2 SIM-Karten. Gesamt hat mich das Konzept hinter diesem neuen Handy mit Apostrophy OS wirklich überzeugt. Es bietet echte Sicherheit im täglichen Umgang und auch die eigenen Daten sind bestens geschützt. Für mich auch entscheidend ist der weitere Zugang und Nutzung von Android Apps. Sollte man sich später gegen das Abo entscheiden, hat man natürlich weiterhin Zugang zu der App GMS Wizard und kann seine Apps wie gewohnt nutzen. Hinsichtlich der Hardware erhält man zudem aktuelle sehr gute Technik incl. Kamera geboten. Dieses Handy von Punkt empfehle ich sehr gerne weiter.

Das MC02 Smartphone von Punkt. wird in einer schlicht gehaltenen aber stabilen Schachtel geliefert. An Zubehör hat der Hersteller ein USB-C / USB-C Kabel ohne Netzteil, ein Werkzeug zum Öffnen des SIM/Speicherkarten-Slots, ein kleines Benutzerhandbuch sowie eine Karte mit 4 Aufklebern „Punkt.“ in schwarz und weiß beigelegt. Das Gehäuse ist stabil und die Hardware-Tasten haben einen guten Druckpunkt. Auf der rechten Gehäuse-Seite befinden sich die Knöpfe für Power und Lautstärke. Auf der linken Seite ist ein frei konfigurierbarer Knopf und der Slot für entweder 2 SIM-Karten oder 1 SIM-Karte in Verbindung mit einer micro-SD Speicherkarte (max. 2 TB). Auf der Unterseite kann man die USB-C Buchse, das Mikrofon und den Lautsprecher erkennen. Auf der Oberseite befindet sich eine 3.5 mm Buchse für z.B. schnurgebundene Kopfhörer (nicht im Lieferumfang enthalten). Im Auflieferungszustand befinden sich noch Schutzfolien auf dem Display und den Kamera-Linsen. Nach dem Start des Betriebssystems wird man gleich gefragt, ob man ein Apostrophy-Konto erstellen möchte. Dahinter stecken verschiedenen Dienste wie z.B. ein VPN-Client. Hierbei muss man allerdings beachten, dass dieser zwar in den ersten 12 Monaten kostenlos enthalten ist, danach aber für aktuell 14.99 CHF pro Monat verlängert werden muss. Ohne diese Dienste kann das Smartphone natürlich trotzdem verwendet werden. Die Erstellung eines Kontos kann auch übersprungen werden. Auf der Android 13 Oberfläche angekommen musste ich feststellen, dass die englische Sprache aktiviert war. In den Einstellungen kann man diese auf Deutsch umstellen, es sind aber nicht alle Menü-Punkte übersetzt worden. Nachfolgend möchte ich einige Informationen zur Ausstattung des Smartphones aufführen. Speicher: beträgt intern 128 GB und ist bereits durch ca. 6.3 GB für das System und ca. 5.0 GB für Apps verbraucht. Wie bereits aufgeführt kann man aber eine micro-SD Speicherkarte bis max. 2 TB einsetzen. Display: misst 6.7 Zoll in der Diagonale bei 1080 x 2400 Bildpunkten, 60 Hz und 394 ppi. Es ist hell aber nicht sehr Blickwinkel stabil. Beim Blick von der Seite verblassen die Farben sehr schnell, die Schrift ist aber noch gut zu erkennen. Das vom Hersteller aufgespielte Theme besteht hauptsächlich aus den Farben Schwarz und Weiß, hier gibt es nicht viel Farbe zu sehen. Der Touch funktioniert gut, es ist selten, dass Eingaben nicht sofort übertragen werden. Kameras: die Rück-Kamera kann Bilder mit max. 64MP bei 9280 x 6944 Bildpunkten aufnehmen. Videos werden mit max. 4k (3840 x 2160) bei 30 FPS bzw. mit FullHD (1920 x 1080) bei 60 FPS aufgenommen. Die Front-Kamera schießt Bilder mit max. 25MP bei 5728 x 4296 Bildpunkten. Videos können mit max. FullHD aufgenommen werden. Beide Kameras unterstützen einen max. 4-fachen digitalen Zoom. Netzwerk: mobile Daten werden mit max. 5G übertragen. Das WLAN unterstützt WiFi 6 und Bluetooth ist in der Version 5.2 vorhanden Akku: hat eine Kapazität von 5500 mAh und kann entweder über das USB-C Kabel oder durch induktives Laden (18 W) mit Strom versorgt werden. CPU: besitzt insgesamt 8 Kerne - 6 x 2000 MHz und 2 x 2400 MHz. Fingerprint: die Anmeldung per Fingerabdruck hat der Hersteller über die Power-Taste auf der rechten Gehäuse-Seite realisiert. Dieser funktioniert sehr gut. Sicherheit: wird zum einen über 2 digitale Drehräder, vom Hersteller „Ledger“ genannt, über den bereits installierten Browser „Vanadium“ umgesetzt. Diese Einstellungen sind noch nicht kostenpflichtig. Die Dienste von Apostrophy hingegen sind am Anfang zwar 12 Monate inklusive, müssen danach aber, wie bereits oben aufgeführt, kostenpflichtig verlängert werden. Fazit: dieses Smartphone ist stabil, installiert Apps sehr flott und baut Internet-Seiten innerhalb kurzer Zeit auf. Beim Display würde ich mir eine höhere Auflösung als FullHD wünschen. Die Qualität von Bildern und Videos ist gut, aber nicht besonders. Die Sicherheits-Funktionen sind interessant, aber nach dem kostenfreien Jahr recht hoch pro Monat. Alternativ könnte man einen VPN-Client manuell installieren. Ich hoffe diese Rezension ist nützlich
