DeWalt batteries did not fit.
It took a dremel and some chisels to modify the battery dock quite a bit to get genuine 20v Dewalt battery or a clone battery to engage enough to actually stay in place and make contact with the pins. I would say it took me about 15 minutes to do the surgery and the plastic is soft enough that it doesn’t have to be precise.30watts is not a lot of bang for your bucks but it’s a tool that if I only need it once, it could be one of those jobs where a gob of solder is the difference between getting something up and running that is worth 10 times the cost of the tool and profiting, or one of those days that you hear the sound of money being sucked out of your pocket. The battery dock was a minor annoyance but less annoying than returning it by driving to UPS and wasting hours of time. If you are moderately handy and can measure what needs to be removed with calipers and have a sharp razor saw, a dremel and cut off wheel and a few less than 1/4” wide chisels for the tight corners, you should be golden.Ironically I had the thought that if I could have it powered up, it could have been used to melt away the ill fitting abutments and slide portions. The self contained solder and trigger feed eliminates the need for a third or fourth hand, and again that can mean faster get er done or fumbling around with alligator clips or the like.Look around, there’s some other ones exactly the same for 10 bucks less, and some 10 bucks more.

Cheap soldering solution
I recently added this Soldering Iron to my existing DeWalt toolkit. It works, but it was really basic. Here are my notes:Pros:+ Auto feed with one hand use+ Easy to be precise+ Heats quickly+ Several alternative tips came in the package, reducing the need to hunt for themCons:- No temperature setting- And even no temperature indicator either, just an on / off light- The tool is too light compared to the weight of the battery, leading to an imbalance during use (it feels like a toy)In summary, while performs well enough, you'd easily feel it is very basic and "cheap".

Original impression has worn off.
It gets hot. It feeds solder. It also misfeeds - a lot. This thing has turned out to be a pain in the neck to use. The feed tube clogged and I had to pull that apart to clean the formed solder in it. It bunches in the gun so much, I lost the side access panel, which is no loss because at least I can see it bunching the solder without having to keep removing it. This one gets a booby prize and no recommendations from me. If you're a glutton for aggravation, this item is for you. Relegated to the trash.

Great soldering with grueling tests by rocket science.
Got this on a whim. Tested it out with my dad. The schooling/testing of a rocket engineer in soldering.... he was so pleased with how well this item worked.... I made have turned him to the dewalt/fits with side.
