Ideal technical toy

Took longer to put batteries in than learn how to use.

Botley the Coding Robot

Easy to use and my grand daughter loves it

Educational

This is quite simple in many ways - but that’s partly the beauty of it. It raises interest and questions in children about a complicated subject area. Hence - a really good idea. My children have enjoyed messing around with Botley.Would recommend.

Great fun

I ordered this for my son and gave it to him to play with on a wet day and he spent all day with it. Botley has 4 basic instructions (forward, back, turn left, turn right) and you programme in a series of commands and submit. Botley then follows these instructions. You can the clear these and start again or build on these (up to 80 commands in total). You can also loop (or repeat) your commands so my son has spent ages giving him different codes and moving him round the house. He also has some "secret codes" you can use. It's easy to use and you will need 5 AAA batteries in total. It works best on a hard floor and it's great fun.

It doesn't do what it is advertised for!

Today I tried Botley before returning it because it 's not the one I wanted (I wanted the 77 pieces set but when I selected the best price I didn't realise that it wasn't for the same item. Anyway I am quite disappointed because Botley doesn't take all the commands. How is my son supposed to learn to code if the robot doesn't follow the instructions it receives? It seems that it has particular problems with turning left if it's not a command you give at the beginning. Instead if you give the command to turn left as the first one, then it won't take more then two commands. Since for the rest it works, I'm afraid this might be a general problem and not just of my particular one!
