If you are putting some item into your body, you owe it to that body to choose good quality. I reviewed the many sea buckthorn products for sale on Amazon. Most were cited to have "wood pieces" and "bugs". Virtually all said "the taste is not very good." This product by Ulthmok of China has apparently been extensively hand-sorted because it is a very clean product with only whole berries, no wood pieces, no pests. Not sure if it was irradiated to kill pests. I would err on the side of a safe product rather than consuming molds or moths or "whatnot". Sea Buckthorn is something you eat almost as a health medicine. Personally, I sort of like the taste, but this is not a sweet berry. It just happens to be one of nature's premium healthy fruits, and in that exchange, it was not blessed with being good tasting. If you are looking to consume the health benefits of sea buckthorn, and want the benefits of the whole fruit, you should incorporate a small handful of this product into your daily routine. Ya, 5 stars.

I was looking for ways to increase Omega 7 (Palmitoleic Acid) in my diet through food (versus an unregulated supplement) and came across these tart little berries. Similar in flavor to Goji berries, these are chewy, tangy and tart ... and a little flavor goes a long way. In addition to using them as a salad topper, I've sprinkled them onto lowfat cottage cheese, as well. And I may add some to homemade granola or trail mix. You can read about the health benefits of Sea Buckthorn berries on WebMD for more information. Anyway, these are an exotic and yummy food and a great source of flavor and antioxidants.

I was unprepared for how unpleasant these are. My nose tells me something is wrong each time I catch a whiff of them. The texture is also terrible, just a crusty exterior with gritty seeds -- I expected some flesh inside them, if not as juicy as a raisin, at least like a goji berry! But no: they're like crumpled up bits of dried oak leaves with some twigs and seed, and a very nasty scent exuding off them. There was even an actual twig when I opened the bin, and the attached stems don't help. As a comparison, I have eaten handfuls of tiny multiflora rose hips this snowy winter, and the skins were a similar texture, but they at least have a teensy bit of flesh around the fibrous pit, and a delightful, interesting, sourish sweetish and a bit acrid taste. But these are just odd. I tried soaking them in boiling water to see if I could reverse the "sundried" crispness of these, and they haven't reconstituted to any significantly better texture. I was hoping they would be chewy, not dried to mere grit and flakes. Why do I give them a 4 after such a poor review? Because I gather, now, that this is just how dried sea buckthorn tastes. It's really the smell - like nothing else I could possibly describe - that makes these most awful. They get a star off for having twigs, and I suspect being drier than they need to be, but I'm not taking any more off because they are almost the only whole berry product I could find - there were only a few sellers who did powder, and most others were tea, improperly labeled as berries. I appreciate this company making them available to us. But if I ever buy a sea buckthorn product again, I will attempt to find a CAPSULE containing powder, so I do not have to taste or smell them. Maybe some people won't be so repulsed by the scent, especially if they don't have sensitive noses. If you're adventuresome and pride yourself on a tough stomach, or have done so much foraging that you're a connoisseur of bark and dried leaves, then take a chance on these. But if you were hoping they would have the same palatability as, say, introductory forage foods like Russian olives, wild grapes, or rosehips, be prepared for these to be even a step below those in flavour and texture.

Terrible product. Taste rancid, but there is no oil listed on the packaging. I will not eat them unless I want to kill my liver. I would like to know where the rancid taste comes from. Btw, the package came by USPS without being informed and in Florida the temperature was above 90*F. The directions on the package said: keep it in cool place. So much for cool place sitting for 2 days in temperatures above 90. Waste of money.
