Bosch AXT Rapid 2200 Shredder (for Powerful Shredding of Garden Debris; Powerful 2200W Motor)

Having previously owned a Bosch AXT Rapid 2200 for more than 15 years which developed a fault with the rotary switch. I decided to buy a new replacement - purchasing from Amazon was a good choice in terms price and delivery. The Bosch shredder comes with a 3 year warranty when registered. This shredder was easy to assemble and the performance is exceptional in use and converted garden waste - branches/shrubs/leaves, into wood chips and mulch very easily. Branches about 20mm in diameter was chopped up with ease. The feeder hopper is a perfect size. The shredder is an ideal weight to move around the garden, acceptable noise level and is powerful enough to complete garden clearance jobs. Bosch is a quality product and is highly recommended - this shredder goes with my other Bosch DIY and Garden equipment.

For the last 30 years I have owned an old Bosch shredder with the corkscrew blade. That machine was excellent (the motor failed eventually). This new one machine falls far short of that one. So far I have used this new machine only to shred dry branches from last year, up to 1.5cm in diameter. So my review is limited to that. It may behave differently with fresher and less dry material. I didn't feel that the machine would cope easily with dry branches thicker than 1.5cm. Mostly the shredded material came out as small pellets of wood but there were also some long shreds in there which isn't ideal for mulch, which is what I needed it for. The machine is very noisy, You definitely need ear protection - I used foam ear plugs which I found sufficient. Also the machine can snatch and whip the branches as you feed them in, so thick gloves also a must. It can eject branches too when they come into contact with the blades. Safety glasses therefore also a must. On the plus side, you can use a trug or bucket underneath to catch the shredded material, which is better than having an integral box like on some of the others. I used to enjoy shredding with my old machine. With this new one it is more stressful. You do have to take a lot of care and concentrate on what you are doing. It seems to do the job, mostly, hence the 4 stars. I will use it now to shred newer material and see how I get on

It works as expected. I am having trouble with larger circumference items, so I’m not sure it works well at the highest level that it advertises. It gets blocked quite often.

After great research I purchased this shredder - I chose Bosch as it has a good reputation. It arrived and I assembled it and set to use it in the Garden, it worked for 30 minutes and died. I did all the usual checks, electricity connected, made sure nothing was jammed in the blades, and it just did not work. My saga does not end there, I contacted Bosch's customer service - no response, again I sent another email to another office, and I got a response- and they indicated that they would arrange collection - sadly that did not happen I was redirected to another Repair Team who deal with the Republic of Ireland. I have had to shell out €30 to purchase appropriate packaging. Very dissappointed in Bosch.

Simple to assemble and user instructions clear. We have used it onc e and it work s fine.

Ordered this for using to mulch down mainly garden hedges/ privet to use as mulch and ground cover over autumn and winter . Unfortunately it didn't arrive in time to get the last cut of the year for that tasks so I tried it out with some tree saplings that had been trimmed. The largest diameter being 23mm . The shredder did cope with that however I'd be doubtful to the claim it could do 40mm as stated . There was no assembly instructions within the instructions booklet but a lot of safety instructions. Just paying lip service in my opinion . A more comprehensive instruction guide with illustration would be better in my opinion. That aside the unit is very well made and was easy to assemble . It's easily to move around and cable length is adequate but could do with being longer in my opinion as in a larger garden it's more convenient to not have to move the garden waste to the shredder but the shredder to the location of the garden waste needed shredding . The noise level is acceptable. It's easy to use with a great ability to shread into good size pieces so usable on the garden for mulch or even for just compacting to go to garden waste recycling . The design is very user friendly . I especially like the height and the tool you get for safely pushing the garden waste into the shredder.

First use I tried very small pieces it just about managed. Pretty disappointed with this product, spend a lot of time unjamming it. I saw reviews that said it was good, perhaps they were really adverts. Maybe I should have bought a larger machine, I don't want a collection of Bosch products that are no use to me, can anyone suggest a shredder that really works?

Superb tool. Powerful, easily portable and effective. Great for hedge clippings and will do branches up to 40mm, although I limit it to about 25mm. Not too noisy, good build quality, easy to clean. Useful prodder to help load the waste. A great buy.
