Q: How does one know where exactly along the thigh to place this? the pain i feel is on the outside of the kneecap, but has been diagnosed is itbs.

Above the knee on the thigh. Like the picture shows. Tighten strap very firmly. It'll feel tight and strange at first but you'll get used to it. Best knee support for ITBS I've found. The pain I had was always bad on the outside of the knee but it's never returned since using this support
