Transforming Movie Nights: The Dangbei DBOX02 👍
I recently got my hands on the Dangbei DBOX02, and I can't express how thrilled I am with this projector. The 4K image quality it delivers is simply stunning, making every movie night an absolute joy. In fact, the only downside to watching films is when my kids start commenting on how great everything looks in 4K—it's almost distracting! 😂It might sound cheesy, but this projector has truly brought our family closer together. Gone are the days when the kids preferred to stay in their rooms playing games. Now, they actively fight over who gets to choose the film, which has led to us enjoying three movies in one night just to accommodate everyone’s picks.I genuinely can't believe that we now have a cinema-like experience at home. Compared to our older projector, this feels like a massive upgrade. If you're considering a projector that can transform your movie nights, I highly recommend the Dangbei DBOX02. It’s worth every penny!

A huge upgrade from the last projector
I actually wanted a real 4K projector for a long time, and I bought a big screen in advance. I watched some videos on youtube and did a lot of comparisons. Finally, I got this projector in July. After opening it, it is a little smaller than I expected, and the black appearance looks modern, compact and exquisite. It was very fast to set up, and it only took a few minutes. This is better than some old projectors such as Epson.Higher brightness, sharp, rich colors. This effect is what I expected! The sound is good, I want to add my own audio equipment later to create a perfect home theater. If you want to buy a 4K projector, I highly recommend this. So far, I am very satisfied with this little guy. I will continue to update it.

Great image quality but let down by fan noise and average speakers
This projector has great image quality for it's price range. Unfortunately, the speakers are not as good compared to other projectors in a similar price bracket. The fan noise is also louder compared to my previous projector, the Xgimi Horizon Pro. In high performance mode you get the brightest screen, but the fan is so loud you need headphones.I also had some issues with auto keystone correction. I had to make adjustments manually, but the adjustments were quite large with each button press. Hopefully, this is something which they can fix with a software update. The stand which comes as an optional extra is great. It feels and looks very premium and it's easy to make adjustments if required. Built in Google TV is fantastic! Makes it very easy to watch content on Netflix, Amazon ect.If you're after great image quality for a reasonable price, this is the projector to go for. You may need a sound bar or a sound system to go with it though.

Among the best Projectors in its price range, visually stunning with truly Cinematic-scale potential
Ordered via vine. This was originally listed for £1790 then within about 48hrs reduced by £390 with a voucher, this happens all of the time on Vine listings and is quite unnecessary but that's a topic for another day.Nonetheless the retailers should consider that, depending on the RRP that I rate this at, £390 is a lot of money so I can ether rate this at its original £1,790 RRP, or the much more competitively priced £1400. Thats almost a 28% discount and £1400 looks far more appealing than alost £1,800 even with included 3D Glasses and the gimbal stand which is £120 on its own and the Dangbei DLP Rechargeable glasses are £38 for a pair.To make things less complicated and since the discount was applied very shortly after ordering, i'm going to review this based on the £1400 price which if purchased qualifies you for the Dangbei Stand and 3D DLP Glasses - I think this is fair since it has remained at this price for almost a month. The DBOX02 also known as the Mars Pro 2 (renamed due to confusion) has significant upgrades over the previous model. Although i'm not an expert in these high end projectors, i'm well aware that Dangbei and highly reputable and this model is universally rated highly, during my research and before it arrived I could not find a single review that was even close to neutral, though they do have several competitors. In terms of build quality and design it's flawless and visually stunning, more so with the stand which finishes it off. With an all black design, with the ventilated speaker section being a slightly lighter or very dark grey it's mostly metallic with a matte finish. Then at the front with the large projector/lense protective cover being a smoked glossy black though it's laser lense is easily visible when on. And it's finished in gold labelling where the "Dangbei" logo is perfectly positioned and proudly displayed at the bottom right. With "4K Ultra HD" also in gold in the top left of the front section and on each side "Dolby Audio" is labelled in silver indicating the 2x 12W speaker grille/ventilated section.I do feel that since Dangbei are able to make such discounts, the Dangbei Projector stand is an absolute must have, where's the 3D glasses are not so much. And by not including the Projector stand with the product (although this promotion listing qualifies you for one) it makes it less competitive against some of it's rivals that come with a gimbal already integrated as part of the full package. For example XGIMIs Horizon S Max comes in at £1699, technically it was released in the UK after this model. But at 3100 ISO Lumens plus IMAX and other features, this category or luxury projectors is moving very quickly and I think including the Projector stand was a very, very wise move that should come as standard moving forward. Although the older XGIMI Horizon Ultra is a closer rival with similar spec and 2300 ISO Lumens.Although I can't compare to every single brand and similarly priced and spec'd projector, Dangbei is the most feature rich projector I've had the pleasure of testing. With 2450 ISO Lumens, 10-bit color depth and 1.07 billion colors and the DLP/ALPD collectively combine as this units primary and leading performance features allowing great picture quality and brighter than most (not including XGIMIs Horizon Max @ 3100 ISO Lumens), as well as enhancing the picture quality further it allows for some relative ambient lighting, plus superior to Tri-Laser alone. Though best results will always be in darker environments, which is how I like to watch movies anyway. As for Live sports during the day time, I don't watch sports but this is not a day time/sunlight projector which is fine as most are not for this price. For that there are £2500+ AWOL short throw projectors and their £2500 motorised projector screens with 95% ambient light and ceiling light rejection - but these are an even higher end class of short throw projectors. As expected there is key stone correction, intelligent obstacle avoidance, auto-focus and screen fit, like the former model and as mostly found and this category/type of projectors. I cannot think of anything missing though I think it's time the gimal/stand is included as it is in some of it's rivals that are similarly priced although it can be used desktop mounted. The projector stand really makes this complete, whilst not necessarily adding to performance. Although if I had the knowledge and ability to test and also compare each feature and spec comprehensively versus at least a dozen competitors in the market, i'd exceed the character limit in this review very quickly.Though it's popularity as a brand and the model is undeniable and although there are some subjective aspects, this is highly sought after and I think I could safely say its somewhere in the top 5 projectors of it's price bracket - if we exclude XGIMIs new Horizon Max which in some ways is a few steps ahead of this and comes with the gimbal, though it significantly lacks in it's connectivity and Google TV.When it comes to these projectors, there is no escaping these are a luxury item. You either need a very large living room, or I really struggle with the idea of not using these to their full potential. I.E with a maximum 200" display you basically have a mini Cinema in your home and 10 years ago this was not possible.I once went to a tiny Cinema in Penzance over 15 years ago long, long before these projectors even existed and that was the smallest Cinema Ive even been in, being in such a small and somewhat poor town, it only had around 20 seats and the screen was pathetic. 4K did not exist then either but if it did, besides its maximum throw range it would have obliterated the Cinemas own projector, how times have changed if you have the money this can significantly enhance your Movie and TV experience within the home, and any other content. So anyone who has the expenditure to spend £1400 on one of these, whilst you could use it at 60" or 100" if you wanted I would feel you're not utilising the huge potential. Similarly, although the 2x 12W speakers are better than nothing, and pretty much the best you are going to find in this unit, some use JBL, Harmon and Kardon etc but 12W-15W is the best you're getting. Whilst that isn't unusable and you could still enjoy any content with it. Logically I think using a projector like this with only a 60" or 100" screen and it's integrated speakers is absolutely criminal. You might as well get 75"+ TV with money leftover for audio, the only difference being this is easily portable. So I would expect most people looking to buy these, either already have the rooms, or the wall space. Otherwise I think you should buy this projector as one part, of a much bigger investment, project and setup. Including a 200" quality screen and the best audio system you can afford if you want to really maximise the potential of this true home cinema projector.Being an audiophile myself with an existing Hi-Fidelity sound studio, I think if you invest in a £1500 projector then a 60" or 100" that is your prerogative. But whilst being portable and with GoogleTV, better imaging quality - it is not a vastly different experience from a much cheaper 75" TV. When in terms of both audio and also visually, this Projector and those like it have the potential to produce a 200" Cinematic experience, connecting to a powerful amplified 2.1 sound system at the very least. If you do have the space an are able to invest additional money for an external High end audio setup and you can somehow get away with the full 200" projector screen, then the potential for a true cinematic experience is literally beyond what one can imagine or comprehend within the comfort of your home - With the ideal setup being a dedicated spare bedroom/man cave, this is the lengths I would go to if I had a family, watched sports and movies and were serious about owning a nothing short of a virtual cinema in your premises - providing the audio is also sufficiently powerful and immersive. I have not got any 3D content to test this with, but for kids or anyone into 3D content this package provides all the benefits of this also.No part of this optimum setup is cheap of course, and I tested this on a section of my wall and whilst it still looked good, you could see the marks from the paint. So I feel this Mid-High end projectors and just the beginning of a much larger investment. If you want to use it without the stand and on a small screen, then you can but then I feel you'd be wasting this product. It also looks far better with the stand, besides allowing for 360 degrees base rotation and pan/tilting for ceiling projection, and the force required to adjust the stand is perfectly weighted and balanced. So this is a must have IMO, whereas the 3D glasses will depend on whether you watch any 3D content at all, or you may already have your own.But they are very high quality 3D DLP Shutter glasses and Dangbei branded. The idea of watching movies alone sounds a bit lonely, but for a family of any size this is truly a luxury product if you can afford it, I did not have any small Cinemas in my Houses when growing up. You can literally bring the theatre to your home, plus and sports, documentaries and other 4K content, or kids TV.Since I don't live in a mansion, trying to create 200" of wall space means nothing less than totally redesigning my living room for me, removing fireplace, repositioning sofas which I have not quite started yet. And this has a maximum throw of 5.3 metres giving plenty of room for 200" projection providing your walls and ceiling is high enough. And then although this supports Dolby Audio and Dolby DTS-X - I would probably buy a 2.1 Edifier 360DB combined with a Fiio K7 DAC/Amplifier at the very least. Because I already know this combo is exceptionally powerful, it has USB/Digital Coaxial/RCA/Digital optical/ Bluetooth connectivity which is well priced and both a DAC and amplifier. Since Ive already owned this system before, it wouldn't be so great without the Fiio K7 DAC or similar DAC/AMP/Receiver it would be ok. But with it, you would have Planar tweeters and a fantastic 2.1 stereo system including 8" subwoofer and over 155W RMS of power for powerful and accurate audio - comparable to what you'd hear near the front rows in the cinema.Although "the sky is limit" applies here, there are plenty of active 2.1 systems like Edifier between £300-£5000 if you include a very important DAC/AMP which will transform your audio since it can handle about 20% more volume than it's quoted RMS and with great frequency response, bass and power.Hi-Fidelity or Hi-Res certified systems make the best Home Cinema systems - Soundbar 5.1 systems cannot compete with the soundstage, clarity and detailing provided by a good Hi-Fi system. Although there are some true high end 5.1 Klipsch and similar products that will accurately reproduce Dolby and surround sound. Although even a good 2.1 system sounds fantastic, as I paired this with my own sound system - though unfortunately I cannot fit a 200" screen in my bedroom even if I relocated my bed and entire sound system even 100" would be a lot of work, but it sounded nothing short of epic.So whilst my sound system is not the product i'm reviewing, It's an optimum component should you wish or be able to turn this Dangbei DBOX02 into a real Cinematic project by maximising it's potential compared to the device and it's integrated speakers - The difference is vast.Ideally i'd replicate my entire sound system, but that would cost £2500+. I'm not a fan of soundbars at all, in Audiophile terms Soundbars are not good for proper Hi-Fi soundstaging, although a very expensive system with a subwoofer would be am improvement the money would be better spent on a proper 2.1, 5.1 audio system etc.Other features worth mentioning are the Google TV and Netflix Licensed so there is access to hundreds of the most popular apps, PrimeVideo, Disney+ (rubbish) but it's all built in to the OS which makes it incredibly versatile with an easy UI. Also supporting iOS, Android, WIFI6 is sufficient although WIFI6E is becoming more common, the difference is irrelevant here as WIFI6 already provides more than enough bandwidth and there is Bluetooth plus HDMI 2.1 ports for you to connect pretty much anything you like. The ports are neatly on the rear section and include a generous: headphone/3.5mm jack which can be used for headphones or with an adapter to connect to audio systems via 3.5mm to RCA adapter etc etc.Followed by two USB ports to insert your own media or connect to supported devices as inputs, 1x HDMI eARC, 1x regular HDMI which is good considering that in 2024 some older devices will lack eArc.Most importantly a digital optical port labelled S/PDIF that most will connect to their chosen audio device as this should support 24-bit 192khz digital audio - Though my DAC will support 32bit 786khz, it's more than enough for TV/Movies.Then we have an Ethernet/LAN 10/100/1000mbps port if you want a permanent stable internet connection, though chances are you'll be fine with WIFI6 providing you have good signal at your chosen location. Since this supports Dual-band 2.4/5GHz, 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax so 95% of modern routers and covered, with only the 6E bands not covered, unless your bands are merged either 2.4ghz or 5Ghz are fine as few are using this band to broadcast. Not forgetting this is somewhat portable if you had a portable screen also so you'll need good signal. Then lastly the DC power plug input which is pretty small and everything is very tidy. It's also a very compact unit, about typical in it's dimensions for these Projectors 23cm x 16cm x 20cm without the stand. Although the projector stand is virtually the same height and width anyway. The total weight of the projector alone is only 3.9kg (slightly more with the stand) so this is perfectly portable and not difficult to relocate or reposition, with the stand making the location/positioning significantly more versatile with 360 degrees rotating and almost 180 degrees pan/tilting.There's other important little details i've surely missed. We also have multiple HDR content support, including HDR10, HLG, and HDR10+, the first of which is expected in high-end projectors and UHD 4K TVs but it's keeping up with the latest HDR protocol. There's MEMC Smooth Motion blur reduction which helps with Gaming and Sport, fast moving content. Although since it natively supports Up to 4K @ 60Hz, down to up to1080p @ 240Hz you can expect smooth moving video. So I could say much more no doubt, I feel using this projector on its own with a small screen would be really undervaluing and under utilising the device. Although scenarious and setups and budgets will all vary, I suspect the most dedicated of 4K projector enthusiasts all whoms seem to agree this is among the best choices you could currently make, especially priced at £1400 only which has made it significantly more appealing and competitive, in an already super competitive and fast moving market. But before I even received this, I spent countless hours researching various Youtube and other online profile reviews, with expert opinions. And nobody had anything bad to say about this Projector, it is highly reputable already thanks to the previous model and Dangbeis numerous other models.I would say if your budget is around £1400, overall this may be your best bet. With perhaps half a dozen close contenders that I can't claim I've personally tested or compared to. But I think to any prospective buyers this would be very, very high up on their list. Although for it's original RRP of £1790, there are some alternative and newly released options.Rating this at its current £1400 RRP, including the projector stand with the promotional discount was a very good marketing choice that has kept this very competitive and it will remain so for a while longer at this price point. I hope to see the Stand/Gimbal included on the "DBOX03" or the successor to this, naturally with even more ISO lumens. But the Dangbei DBOX02 with Google TV is feature rich and with broad connectivity.A such I feel this must be awarded 5/5 stars @ £1400. If it were still priced at £1790, then it would have some additional, possibly superior contenders. But whilst £1400 still is not cheap relatively speaking, the discount has made it far more accessible to many more prospective buyers.Where it can either perform very well on it's own. Or depending on your preference, space and scenario, it can also perform infinitely greater for those who want to make the investment towards a much grander, comprehensive setup and project. In order to ultimately exploit the fullest potential and performance capabilities available from this device. If combined with a larger projector screen and powerful Hi-Fi audio setup this Projector is capable of creating a truly cinematic-scale experience, yet in the comfort of your home. When combined with High quality audio and 200" projector screen the DBOX02 is both ready and capable and can become something rather special indeed, that any consumer would be very, very lucky to possess or have access to.
