Rick Steves Britain & Ireland Planning Map: Including London City Map

I love this map! I got it for my first out of country trip to Ireland, Scotland, and England. It simplified the areas enough so that I could comprehend the cities and geography since it was somewhere that I had never been. I really like the map material. It’s sturdy. I used permanent marker to add other specific places I wanted to visit like Highclere Castle or Stourhead Gardens. I was in Dublin, Edinburgh, Manchester, Bath, London, etc. I would have loved to go to York, but I didn’t on this trip. I had the map in my bag and it was nice to see a paper map that wasn’t on my phone. I used the map and my phone and the combination of those made it so I was able to find my way around each place. It took some of the stress off of being in a new place that you’ve never been before. If I am able to go to any other countries, I would totally look into more of these maps. They make great planning and travel maps.

This map is exactly what I was looking for. I’m “old school” so to speak, and I wanted an actual paper map to show the big picture. Don’t get me wrong, I love my cell phone & being able to view maps & such in that manner, but it doesn’t always show enough of what I’m looking for at the same time. I wanted a map of Great Britain to help plan our trip there this summer. This map fits the bill nicely. It is made from a good quality plasticized paper that I think will hold up well even after repeated folding. It shows England, Scotland & Ireland in full & also has insets of some of the major areas/cities too. It names lots of cities & shows major roads & train lines throughout the countries. The back side has a detailed map of London making it easy to locate points-of-interest. There is also an inset map showing the different underground subway lines & stations. It’s definitely a map I’d recommend if you’re planning a vacation to Britain or Ireland.

Say you want to Britain, but you don't know how to get started on the planning. Here's a useful hint. Get this newly updated Rick Steves map of Britain and Ireland. A large map of Britain and Ireland tells you where things are in relation to each other. You can see, for example, that London and Edinburgh aren't next door neighbors, and going to Ireland requires additional planning. An inset map gives some distances as a sense of scale. Other inset maps give a sense of what is on offer in several prominent tourist cities. On the back is a really useful tourist map of London itself. If you are serious about going to Britain and Ireland, you still need to consult the travel guides, including Rick Steves' own guides. If you are going to spend the money to go as far as Britain and Ireland, plan ahead for best results. This map is well recommended as a starter kit for that planning.

Good map

Found that GPS was better when we were traveling, but it was good for planning. Sturdy and easy to refold.

I was really happy with this map. I didnt realize it was both water and tear resistant. It was grest about highlighting good spots to visit. I was even able to use a dry erase marker to map my destination and erase and make changes. Trust me it went through the ringer of folding and refolding and it held up perfectly. I will definitely get the same type of map for future trips. Love Rick Steves!!

Perfect

It is a good size with obvious popular destinations marked clearly. Waterproof and tear-resistant so it will tolerate constant use.

Not detailed enough for what I wanted

This map does not provide much useful information. We purchased it believing it would provide insight into the best sites to see in the UK, but it is mostly just a map that you could pick up at any gas station.
