XA2 to 10 VI
Got an 'As New' from Amazon Resale for about £110 less then the price of a new one and it was exactly as described in its box so very good value. Upgraded from an Xperia XA2 which is one of Sony's finest phones so this has a lot to live up to. Only upgraded due to the "will it/won't it" confusion over its 4G Calling support. Onto the 10 VI, so far, so good. Going from Android 9 to Android 14 was a bit of a culture shock but Sony's UI is reasonably clear of clutter. Shame Sony didn't port their Album app over to the newer OS (Google's Photos app is the nearest I've found - Gallery is a car crash!) but at least their Music app did. After a prolonged series of 'update is available' sessions, the phone has now updated to Android 15 and all is well. The phone seems quick to respond, hasn't glitched out or seized up and, apart from trying to remember some long forgotten passwords, the transfer from the old faithful has been smooth. In summary, it's a very good phone - just big enough without rivalling my old Nexus 7 tablet, unlike some of its competitors, so it fits in my pocket easily. All the apps are quick to launch and the screen is large and responsive

So far so good
I purchased this in a black Friday deal as it was good value for money because my previous Sony Xperia 5 iii stopped working after they shut down the 3G network. The shape and size is very similar to that of Xperia five however the functionality is not as good. I mis having a dedicated photo button and I liked having the Google search button also. The picture qualities what would be expected for this price level phone. I find that the battery life is good, nowhere near the two days advertised. But it does last of all day without needing to be charged. I've had no issue with lag, no speed problems when opening the apps and I didn't really expect any as Sony generally makes decent quality phones. I think that if you want a good quality phone that allows you to use all of the apps associate with the Google Android phone then this is fine .only thing I didn't like was how heavily it's used some of the Google apps and I opted to use alternatives which didn't have a pay premium for advanced functions.

Dependable and well thought-out
I've had it for over a year and never really had problems with it. It's a relatively compact size, the camera is really good and having a headphone jack is always nice. Screen quality is as good as any really and anything more would be unnecessary. Battery life is really good, even after having it for over a year. The fingerprint reader can be a bit difficult at first but it's fine once you're used to it.

Showed promise but too many flaws
There are some really good things going for it; headphone jack (although see issue below), no notch/punch hole, symmetrical both vertical and horizontal, 4 years of security updates (finally Sony!). The camera is reasonable. 60fps 1080 video, plus a slow motion option (unsure of the fps on that). Sometimes struggles to focus and low light photos not the best but perfectly acceptable. You do get manual control over the focus and shutter speed as options you can enable in the settings, but in general the shutter speed is not great causing bury subjects if any movement. There are some things I don't understand and are putting me off slightly; no "always on display" despite being OLED, the side bezels should be much thinner and the phone feels quite chunky, there's a huge space next to the battery icon so the status bar looks very uneven with no way to move the clock to the right. The power button doesn't feel great and having the power button be the finger print sensor too I'm struggling to get used to, eg if I just want to turn it off it might immediately then read my finger and unlock. I'm trying to change my method by using a different finger to turn it off, but having it vibrate and complain about a bad finger print read doesn't seem like the most elegant solution. I wish the reader was somewhere else. GSMArena said it had an issue with colour shift. I think this is true on a bright white screen but once you have content on the screen (or dark mode) I cannot see any issue with the colours with any viewing angle. A new issue that I've just noticed is the screen will randomly wake up when sitting on my desk, for what appears to be no reason (no new notifications). I'm trying to find a pattern to this behaviour. Update: some days later I've not noticed this happen again, but I have noticed a new issue; when listening via wired headphones there is a constant crackle. I didn't notice when listening to music but as soon as I listen to a podcast or youtube video with just someone talking, it's very noticeable and seems to stop when there is silence. It's not the straw that broke the camel's back, but an unforgivable issue. I'll need to find something else.

If you've never bought a Sony mobile before, you've been missing out!
As a Sony fan, this phone is an excellent upgrade for my XA. I always buy Sony as I have found them to be more durable and reliable the alternatives. I expect a phone to last more than the minimum contract term, and still be fully useful long after. Although the 10 range is technically the budget range, this mobile is very capable, performing all my need effortlessly and the SD card compatibility is crucial to maintain my storage needs. I love the fact that I can go days without a recharge - while on weekends away my peers are scrabbling for charging opportunities while I can do the same tasks as them but be confident that I wont need to charge until I get home. The camera is good quality as well, able to zoom to 6x as well as auto focus and an improved night mode. its size is the perfect balance between screen size for viewing and pocket size for an easy carry. My last Sony phone lasted 6 years without issue, I fully expect this to do the same!

After a year of use
This 10 replaced the previous version Xperia 10 and I've been using it for a year now so I feel I can make an honest review now and not the normal ai reviews that's all over Amazon these days. All in all it's a faster phone with much better sound quality thanks to the twin speakers replacing the mono on the previous gen. I used the headphones port with good quality wired headphones and the sound quality is excellent (I also have a dragonfly dac but since this version I hardly use it...but it's a better sound with that I have to admit just CBA to carry it). The real negative with it is battery drain. The old one would hardly move all day normally still sitting at 75% full after a day's use. This one is down at 40% most days and yes that still MUCH BETTER than iPhones in full use and you can get away with forgetting a charger overnight but only just now. It also suffers from overheating, signal total drop off and Bluetooth drop off so you do need to power cycle it to restart to keep it working smoothly. The layout works for me I like the longer screen for watching tv in landscape. The thumb print works better than the last version and in use I find it better than my work iPhone 16 with it's face id especially when walking around in summer with sunglasses on. Nice that it had the newer version of android for security and for the money it ticks a lot of boxes it's not slow at all takes great photos solid build and I even got free Sony Bluetooth headphones not that I use them much. I would like Sony to do something else in-between this and the Xperia 1 that's the same size the 5 is to small and the 1 is a huge jump in price but in a price drop event it's a bargain just a few glitches that need sorting before the next version.
