Love these protein bars.

I truly am devastated. I refuse to buy most protein bars as most taste horrible and are filled with absolute junk: but these were one of the amazing exceptions. Ordered a few replacement boxes recently as I eat 3-4 of these bars a week. Very dissatisfied. They have changed their formula and ingredients and it is not for the better at all. I loved their original bars (pictured left and top). The new ones taste completely different and like every other fake tasting protein bar on the market. I did not mind splurging on these bars since they have cleaner ingredients and the taste was phenomenal: but the taste and ingredients are just way too different to justify the higher cost. The fact that the company does not also advertise that their formula has changed is VERY aggravating. Feels like I experienced the ol’ bait and switch. Buyer beware: it’s a completely different formula and taste and food items on Amazon are non returnable.

I'm torn on these. I really love the flavor and when they are good; the texture is excellent (more on this below). I hate pasty chewy protein bars. Mezcla offered a promising alternative in the textural department by using pea protein puffs which are great. They are easy to digest (I don't have a problem with legume based FODMAPs) and work as a good mid-morning snack. The bars survive shipping well and are good take to work. Why not 5 stars? I've ordered 3 different flavors four times over and have a reasonable amount of data for comparison. The problem is when these bars are good - they are absolutely exceptional. But there is significant variation between batches. The good batches are light and crunchy with delicious flavor. But not all batches are the same. Some of them have the texture of a pasty powerbar (yuck!) with a crunchy topping. Sometimes the hazelnut flavor is not pronounced and sometimes the pistachio bar is lacking in pistachio flavor. Sometimes you only taste chocolate. I suspect some of these are growing pains for a small company but they need to focus on quality assurance and ensure their suppliers are providing ingredients of consistent quality. I can't give them five stars until they get this right but otherwise the product would deserve five stars. I really want their product to succeed.

Unfortunately, no longer a 5 star product for me. They have changed the bar ingredients. It’s definitely not the same. Very sad to see this. It was a delicious, light, quinoa almond crunch. Now it’s like eating chocolate taffy with no almond flavor.
