Excellent quality
This planer can be used straight away without much tuning. The blade comes pre sharpened. It was sharp enough to shave facial hair. Suizan produces really good quality tools.

Really good
Best plane you can order from amazon. It comes very sharp but i resharpened it, make it flat, sharpened chip breaker and flaten it as well. Its a learning curve to set up a japanese plane if you are first time user. I ordered three suizan planes it took me a full day to sharpen to 8000 grit and fully set all three. I sharp my tools free hand if you use a jig it may take you a little longer . I recommend buying bigger two planes

Too small - difficult to use and too pricey
works out of box, but very small in size so difficult to use. Item is also too pricey for what we get

Great hand plane! It comes sharp out of the box, which not even all premium ones will. It took about 30 minutes to tune up. This is standard for even more expensive Japanese planes. The size was as advertised, though I wasn't expecting it to be nearly as heavy as it was. I was able to use it one handed and still took red oak shavings as well as pine from Home Depot. It took paper thin shavings down to thick heavy curls. Use the hammer to tune the depth of the blade and you'll have your desired shavings! Overall/TLDR: EASY TO USE, SET UP, and excellent value! It is easy to adjust, and will last a long time!

Beautiful little plane. The iron doesn’t look like it’s forged, more like stamped out of plate steel and it’s definitely not the kind where a Japanese smith has fused a high carbon steel piece onto a softer one. Nevertheless, right out of the box, it’s sharp enough to take fine shavings. After sharpening the iron and setting it properly, it’s even more of a joy to use.
