The legs and shelf cross sections are metal rods, but the shelf connectors are plastic, and the shelves themselves are an odd plasticky fabric. It went together easily enough and it serves the purpose it was purchased for (storing motorcycle riding gear) but I wouldn't trust it to hold a lot of hanging items. It hasn't fallen over but a moderate jostle would probably do it. $30 is probably on the high end that it's worth.
