RK ROYAL KLUDGE N80 Low Profile Mechanical Keyboard w/Smart Display Screen & Knob, 75% Top Mount 3-Modes Wireless Mechanical Keyboard, Software Support, Massive Battery, 80 Keys, Quiet Red Switch

For context, when I got this keyboard, I already had a Lofree flow (10/10 switches, 6/10 Bluetooth connection management) and a budget keyboard with blue switches. I use the flow for my main PC and the budget one at work, and I wanted another keyboard for everything else, including travel. I love brown switches and low profile caps. I've been using my RK for a few months at the time of writing this review. I have to say, I'm blown away by the quality of this keyboard, given its price ($70 at time of purchase). **Battery**: I absolutely love the massive battery. I was a little thrown off by the hefty weight of the keyboard (not necessary a drawback for me, just unusual), but when I realized I could use it for days and not worry about plugging it in at all, it occurred to me how nice that was. No more battery budgeting! **Connections**: The small monitor on the volume wheel and the solid variety of ways to connect to devices make it a breeze to set up and switch between devices. I hardly have to think about it at all, and in a different league compared to other keyboards where you can only swap Bluetooth connections with the finicky fn+<number> method that is common for other keyboards. **Switches**: Quite good for the price. They get the job done well and are fairly sturdy. **Key caps**: I wasn't a huge fan of the material at first, and I do think the key press sounds would be nicer with something a bit more dense. That said, I like the somewhat retro appearance and the feel of the caps on my fingers. **Baseboard**: The baseboard is plastic, but feels pretty darn solid. The arrow keys and Del/PgUp/PhDn are separated from the main section of keys and the F keys are also separated and split into thirds, all of which I find to be much more comfortable and convenient than the lack of gaps. **Volume wheel**: This is the thing I love the most about this keyboard. Having a mini UI here makes it so easy to use the keyboard by switching connections, light effects, color, etc. The wheel is surprisingly sturdy and never in the way. It's even easy to fix the date and time. **RGB LEDs**: There are some pretty neat patterns. I don't really care about that kind of thing, but it's not hard to have a little fun with the light effects or turn them off if you'd like. I thought I'd be a tiny bit bothered by not having shine-through key caps, but it hasn't bothered me.

This keyboard is a perfect entry point into a semi custom, or mechanical keyboard. I was hovering over purchasing a Nuphy for a few weeks - and just couldn't bring myself to spend $140 on a keyboard. I knew there had to be a cheaper alternative that was just as good. Pros: Price - the quality for this price point seems REALLY good actually. This thing is sturdy Profile - I enjoy the keyboard layout, with the exploded arrow keys. The half height or low profile keys are really well done. RGB - The RGB lighting is actually REALLY good. I was expecting to see a lot more hot spotting for the price, but its really nice. Software - Yeah - the software is really good too. It gives you all the options you could want, and even to design your own RGB effects. The knob - yeah - that was probably my favorite thing. You can upload your own custom 20 frame GIF to it, and it will play on repeat. Sound - It's no nuphy thock, but this thing has a really satisfting milky, creamy, thick sound to it. The padding and insulation in the keyboard really shines through here. Cons: Keycap color - This is a big meh for me. It's pretty boring and mute. There IS color to the keys and they are very consistent in the color, but the choice of color is just not for me. It's just too earthy for me. Keycaps - There is keycap wiggle on every switch. Usually with higher end mechanical switches there is zero wiggle, the key should just travel up and down, but there is smoosh to every key on the board. Big negative for me. Polling rate - the polling rate for the keyboard isn't published, and when I went to test it I wasn't happy with it's latency. The avg latency for BT was around 100ms, the avg latency with 2.4ghz was 80ms, and the avg latency with USBc was 11ms. The polling rate for BT was 60hz, and for 2.4ghz it was 111. I was expecting this to be similar to the nuphy with 1k hz polling for the 2.4ghz. So for this I cannot recommend this keyboard as a gaming keyboard, there is just too much latency. Keycaps - Allwhile they are printed very well, and have a very nice feel to them. They are not shine-thru!!!! This is the worst attribute about this keyboard. If you are going to use this keyboard in low light - you better have your keyboard skills up - because you will not be able to see the printing on the keys. I might argue the RGB backlighting makes it even worse. This is a terrible design and I don't see anyone being a fan of non-shine thru keycaps. Overall: If you can get this for $60, this is going to be an upgrade from anything that is OEM. But it is that - it's a $60 keyboard. There are just too many bad negatives that could have been addressed to really bring big value to this product. If you are going to game wirelessly on this though, I cannot recommend this for $5 even. The latency is just terribly bad.

I bought this keyboard because I prefer Low Profile Mechanical Keyboards. Preferable TKL or similar. I didn't think it was necessary to pay $140, $220 or more for mainstream brands that don't really deliver on quality or the high price isn't justified. Pros: • Feels very high quality, premium keyboard. Good weight • Love the key strokes. They're smooth and quiet. Satisfying. This board really feels better than my other Cherry and Kailh Low Profile keyboards. But I think it mostly has to do with the weight and reinforcement that makes everything feel premium. • Volume knob controls with GIF Display is great. Cons (all pretty minor): • I'm not a fan of the color schemes they offer. I wish they had just all white, or black. Board and all. • I'd prefer it if the stock keycaps had letters that shows light through the letters. I replaced the keycaps with just that. (XVX Keycaps). In my opinion, that $15 makes this keyboard look 100x better. • Jerrzi Low Profile switches feel great, but they're hard to find in the US. It comes with 4 replacement ones, but I wish it came with like ~10. Only because they're so hard to find. The 4 they gave was generous already. • I wish I could change the volume knob sensitively (if I can, I haven't found it). 1 step of the rotation changes the volume 2%, so you really have to crank it a few times if you're going from 0% to 100%, or really low to high. • Even with replacement keycaps, I'd prefer the normal key grooves. Again, not a big deal. Other notes: • I don't use wireless or bluetooth so I have no idea how that peforms, but wired works great.

It's pretty incredible how good these pre-builts are getting. There's a lot of very impressive and affordable keyboards out there on Amazon. That being said - if you are interested in a keyboard with a more "niche" specification, like this one, it get's a little more difficult to find one. This is one of the only keebs I could find that has low profile keycaps, tactile switches that aren't too loud, and a TKL. Ultimately, a great spec for working in the office. It's light and easily portable with how slim it is. It's not thoccy - but it's not trying to be that. All keys sound tight, except for the spacebar which sounds a little too hollow. The knob with display is fantastic for this price point - I mainly use it to keep track of battery. The software is decent too. Has RGB too but I personally prefer to keep it off. The low profile keycaps make this look very sleek, although it does make accidental key presses more likely. For this reason, I would recommend considering the tactile switches over the linears. It's a great keyboard for the price. Obviously, it doesn't provide the same experience as more premium boards do, but it's not trying to compete in that space. Sacrifices are made smartly (e.g. cheap cable). It's a pleasant keyboard to look at and all the touchpoints are quality.

It’s a very good keyboard. I thought the keys would have been quieter but that’s ok, that’s still quiet. I use it with ubc cable, the response time is so much better in usb than wireless. I was switching from a logitech so the switch feels very sensible. Keyboard is very sturdy.

I have purchased a number of Royal Kludge keyboards, and I love the solid, smooth feel of their keyboards, with buttery smooth lubed switches, and quality feel. This keyboard has low profile keys, and unfortunately does not have the same quality of feel to the keys, especially when compared to brands like the Nuphy Air 75. In particular, the space bar had a lot of rattle on my keyboard, and moved asymmetrically when pushed from one side. I think they need better stabilizers on their low profile keyboards. The OLED screen is very cool however, and I did have fun downloading animated GIF images, especially things like moving eyeballs and rotating globes, which can be set on the keyboard. Love the idea and look of this product, and I would love to use it once these problems with the keys is solved.

Sturdy, heavy keyboard. I really like the tactile-ness of the brown switches. Keycap qualities feel just OK, they feel light and a bit flimsy. Colorways are nice. This is the worst part however. The unit I received has a faulty display knob. The display is completely gone within a few minutes of using it and I cannot get it to reappear, rendering its functionality completely useful. I tried installing RK's software and updating firmware, but there is no update. Software update does not work either. I try inserting a gif into the knob, hoping it may reset it, but also doesn't work. I tried unplugging it, tried FN + spacebar for 15 seconds, turning it off and on multiple times, no avail. Update: Seller was nice enough to send a replacement unit, whole process was very smooth, so big plus to the seller. I want to add I do enjoy the typing experience and noticed it's more accurate than my nuphy kick75 that I've been using

I freaking love this keyboard. I've been using it for 6 months not and there are no issues at all. I've used it with Mac and PC and it's super easy to switch between devices. It even works with my iPad, although I prefer to use the iPad sans keyboard. The keys still feel great. And the keyboard itself has good weight to it. It's solid. I would take it to and from work and no issues, even without a case/sleeve. I am so glad I got this color too. the red is subtle.. not too in your face and very aesthetic. One thing to note if you like the GIF feature on the knob.. the software to install does not work on Mac. I found a work around which required downloading a virtual PC but this was a pain. All-in all, I would still buy it again despite the lack of compatibility with the software and iOS.
