FiiO CP13 Cassette Player (transparent)

The Fiio CP13 was promptly delivered and exceptionally well packed. Feel/Quality The Fiio CP13 is a delight to hold and feels like a well-made quality product. It has a simple design and solid buttons which should hopefully last a long time. Operation The operation is simple and manual with strong chunky buttons for play, rewind, fast forward & stop. It has an auto stop on play but not on rewind or fast forward so please be aware of this if you have a weak or fragile tape. I found this to my cost when it chewed one of my 1970’s tapes. Cons There is no button to open the cassette door so this may prove difficult if you have limited manual dexterity. Sound Quality (dependent upon how recorded) The sound quality has proved to be good when replaying my cassettes recorded in the 70’s, 80’s & 90’s (could do with a little more high-end response but that could be my recording) however, 2000’s onwards the quality has been excellent. Please note this can also be dependent on the headphones used. To maintain best sound quality, it is advisable to clean the cassette heads regularly. Cons Due to limited space (the cassette case does not open very far) it is difficult to clean and demagnetize the cassette heads. Earphone Socket I used the Sennheiser CX300 S ear canal headphones and found that if the supplied ear tips did not provide enough bass, you could use ‘Aiivioll’ silicon ear tips instead. I used cheap Philips over ear headphones and they gave excellent bass. When using ear canal headphones, the volume is very good requiring minimal adjustment to increase the volume. This is handy as it saves battery life giving more cassette playing time. Note: If you are using over ear headphones, you will have to drive them a lot more and turn up the volume considerably. Cons Using ear canal headphones, it is likely that you will have to pull the jack out of the Fiio CP13 headphone socket a fraction (0.5 to 1mm). This was not necessary when using over ear headphones. Charging Battery life depends upon headphones used and volume selected. Ear canal headphones give at least 9hrs 10mins. Over ear headphones give about 7hrs 45mins. The cassette player gives no warning when it runs out of power – just stops! Thankfully charging is easy and quick in about 2.5hrs.

I can’t fault the sound and design - it’s truly beautiful. I really thought with no Dolby NR the tape hiss would be overbearing but no, the amp that has been used is pure quality and produces beautiful highs, mids and tight bass with very little feedback. The one thing lacking which would have been perfect is if a Bluetooth transmitter was built in but I knew this wasn’t present before purchasing - maybe a newer model will address this missing function. This can be rectified by purchasing a Bluetooth 3.5mm jack (slots into the headphone jack) and you can then transmit the players music to Bluetooth headphones/speakers etc - a simple fix for £10 or so. If you’ve been searching for a quality modern day portable cassette player you may have just found it

Waiting for version 2.0 It is good device, but few things are will make it perfect. If You using with Fe (type I) it is nothing wrong. Maybe two things - initially everything feels so tight in tolerance (it was tricky to fit casette and close door - but it become more slack and easier over time) At first run need few minutes to grease spread out for mech running smoothly. But this is normal for new machines - be aware of this. Volume output is loud - louder than anything i used before - i advise to start with very minimal volume and try to steady increase volume - it is painfully loud at 50% ;). Noises are reasonable - nothing more than usual. --- If You using Cr tabes (type II) is bad, due to this type audio characteristic - this is sound wrong - no tape selector or simple eq "bass boost"... Still You can play these tapes - but not best experience. It has good value - but unforunately i only can recommend for type I tapes.

I've bought and restored several legacy players and really enjoy them but feel almost guilty using them? Here's a real opportunity to play your tapes properly without fear of damaging anything (too) valuable and it does this very well! - Even tapes I know are very difficult to drive / got meshed in the car 20/30 years ago. This player sounds very good despite lacking bass boost and dolby (who used dolby for playback anyway?). My only slight criticism would be volume. I'm running in a set of Fidelio's atm and could do with a bit more juice. However, i'm old and deaf so ignore if your hearing is good!!

This must be the Rolls Royce of new personal cassette players - it is so beautifully made. Long before CDs became my passion, I built up my classical music collection by buying tape cassettes. Literally hundreds of them - many of which have barely been played more than once and have been boxed up in the loft for the last few decades. As I write this, I am listening to a Debussy Eminence tape dating from the mid 80s. It sounds fantastic. The fact that there is no Dolby NR makes absolutely no difference to the sound. I am looking forward to exploring all my old tapes once more!

Good solid cassette player, I can now listen to my old tapes including old radio programmes. Purchased from seller Amazon US c£87 with no additional tax etc. There is hiss when playing but I soon got used to it. It's a solid machine. Website Audioreviews hints that battery could be replaced amongst other user adjustments. A good buy.

Also ich beschäftige mich schon sehr lange mit Kassetten und Walkman. Ich bin damit aufgewachsen und habe ca. 100 Kassetten aufgenommen und besitze ca 20 Walkman. Ich habe auch 2x das Modell von We Are Rewind und ich muss sagen das Gerät hält nicht nur damit mit, sondern übertrifft in Sachen Verarbeitung und Soundqualität. Der We Are Rewind ist für heutige Standards schon sehr gut keine Frage, aber der Fiio überzeugt mit dem kleineren Design, den Aluminium Gehäuse und Aluminium Knöpfen. Der Klang ist aufgrund des Tonkopf (der in allen neuen Walkmans verbaut wird) dem Weg Are Rewind ähnlich, dennoch finde ich den Klang ausgewogener. Natürlich fehlt hier die Bluetooth-Funktion, die ich sehr begrüßt habe. Bei diesem Gerät ist als einziger Nachteil ein Motorgeräusch zu vernehmen. Der We Are Rewind ist da DEUTLICH leiser. Also störend habe ich das nur am Anfang empfunden. Beim Musik hören ist es so oder so nicht zu wahrzunehmen. Falls man auf die Idee kommt leise abends mit einer Box zu hören, könnte das vllt stören aber sonst ist das egal. Bei horizontaler Bewegung eiert die Musik leicht und wenn man das Gerät kippt, wird der Sound kurz dumpf. Genau das selbe Problem haben beide We Are Rewind von mir auch. Es ist also vermutlich auf den Mechanismus zurückführbar. Würde ich das Gerät empfehlen? JA! Es gibt bis auf den We Are Rewind nicht vergleichbares neu zu kaufen, dass aus so veralteter, schlechter und billiger Technik so viel rausholt. Natürlich hält dieses Gerät mit keinem High End Gerät von Sony oder Aiwa mit, ist dafür aber neu und hat eben keine Probleme oder Altersschwäche. Der Riemen sollte fürs erste mind. 5-10 Jahre halten. Beim Akku sieht die Sache natürlich anders aus. Der We Are Rewind lässt sich tatsächlich gefahrlos öffnen und die Batterie lässt sich wohl auch einfach tauschen. Beim Fiio soll es wohl so ähnlich sein. Also kleine Info zum Schluss...... Die Tapegeschwindigkeit lässt sich übrigens doch einstellen. Die Verstellschraube befindet sich im Kassettenfach und kann mit Hilfe von YouTube ohne Probleme gefunden werden. Update: Ich habe den Walkman jetzt einige Stunden genutzt und habe noch eine Schwäche festgestellt. Wer bei diesem Walkman auf die Idee kommt längere Tapes zu benutzen (alles über 90min) sollte es besser lassen. Längere Tapes sind meist deutlich dünner und können von vielen Walkmans nicht gut abgespielt werden. Ich habe dies bei einem Metal Tape (IV) festgestellt da es 100min hat. Der Ton wird dumpf und hat sich bei mir nach links verschoben. Bedauerlicherweise hat das auch der alte WM24 gemacht..... Ich ging als erstes von einem Fehler bei der Aufnahme aus...... Der We Are Rewind hat diese aber etwas besser abspielen können auch wenn in der Anleitung davon abgeraten wird. Aber auch hier sind die Stimmen Mal weiter links, Mal weiter rechts gewesen. Bei 90min Tapes Chrome und Ferro sind keine Probleme zu bemerken. Ich habe noch ein paar 120min Chrome Tapes die auf dem We Are Rewind bestens laufen. Mal sehen wie es damit auf dem Fio aussieht :) Update II: Alle Tapes funktionieren doch. Ich weiß nicht warum, aber auf einmal klappt es doch ohne Probleme 🤷🏽‍♂️. Leider musste ich feststellen, dass meine Auto-Stop Funktion nicht funktioniert. Mir ist es nie aufgefallen, da ich die Tapes immer am Ende gespult habe. Da muss man natürlich selbst stoppen. Jetzt da ich auf der Arbeit sie Hände voll hatte und das Gerät das hätte selbst erledigen müssen, hat es das nicht gemacht. Der Motor lief weiter. Ich gehe hier aber tatsächlich von einem Produktionsfehler aus, da ich im Internet bei keinem anderen Nutzer sowas gesehen habe oder so eine Beschwerde gehört habe. Der Kundenservice würde kontaktiert und ich bekomme das Geld zurück. Das Gerät geht dann zurück an den Händler und ich werde natürlich ein neues Gerät bestellen, da ich durch aus zufrieden bin Ich Brauch einfach ein solides Gerät, das eine gewisse Wertigkeit und Soundqualität hat und das bietet der Fiio auch. Als kleine Anmerkung: Wenn man wie früher den Walkman am Gürtel haben möchte, kann man sich das ganz einfach selber basteln (siehe Bild) ich habe mir leider nicht genug Mühe gegeben aber mit Sekundenkleber und einem Gürtelklip kann man was brauchbares aus der Fiio Hülle machen. Nur empfehlen ich es nicht damit zu übertreiben so wie ich. Das Ergebnis kann auf jedenfall was die Stabilität betrifft überzeugen. Da man die Rückseite eh nie sieht, ist mir das Aussehen an der Stelle auch egal.
