I have a hubby with feet that are difficult to fit. These Merrill hiking boots are perfect for him. They give needed support while also having the softer sole his foot condition requires. They also are available in the wide width he needs. He already had this boot and wore it for 8 years. He’s hard on footwear so that’s amazing. Though his old pair is really in good enough shape to wear, they have some tears on the seam so we replaced them with the same make and style knowing he’ll be happy. He wore them on a hike, right out of the box, with no problems.

If you have a wide foot

Nice shoes! I read some reviews that they ran small, but didn't really believe it. Well, I ordered my regular size 9 and had to return for a 9 1/2. I take reviews more to heart after this experience. Anyway, these shoes are awesome! Comfortable and really a nice looking shoe! I wanted a warm substantial shoe for spring, fall and winter and these are the ticket!! I Love them! And, yes they really do run small.

I really like these boots and own two pairs, this one and the tactical version. I don't know if people consider them stylish but I like the look. They're not fashion boots but it works for me. Two things to consider: They do run large. I said fits 'as expected' but that's only because I have experience with Merrells and had reviewed their sizing chart. If you compare to major sneaker companies like Nike or Adidas, I'd advise going a half size down or maybe even a full size. I wear an 11 in most Nike shoes and 10.5 wide in Merrell. I think I could wear a 10 wide they'd just be a little more snug but still with room in the toe. As someone with wide feet I really appreciate that they have wide sizing. The other thing is that if you're planning on wearing these for hiking then consider getting the non-waterproof version unless you really need waterproof, because even though these are relatively breathable, they're not as breathable as the ones without the waterproof membrane. If you do your hiking in the summer in hot and dry conditions, you'll want your feet to breathe. I can wear these for hours and feel fine, but if I didn't expect to hike in the rain, if I didn't expect to have to step through standing water, I'd opt for the non waterproof version because the breathability is going to be more important than waterproof quality if that isn't really needed. Side note: I really like the color dark earth and it might be my favorite of all the colors they offer.

I have been a long-term customer of Merrell's hiking boots and have owned quite a few Moab boots. I like the way they feel when I hike or as I just walk around the neighborhood. On uneven terrain they provide good support. The insole is well-cushioned and I have no soreness even after long hikes. I usually have several pairs on hand and rotate them randomly, replacing them when the tread wears down. I normally don't keep track of how long they last and couldn't have told you how many miles I got on individual pairs. But recently I had a chance to learn more. I noticed that three pairs all needed replacement at roughly the same time. I ordered a pair from Amazon (and shortly afterwards, another pair directly from Merrell), but this time I kept track of my miles and the boots' wear. I was surprised at how quickly the treads wore down. I'm attaching two photos to this review. They compare the right boot of the pair I used exclusively to that of an unused, new pair. The first photo shows how much the boots wore down after 20 days from first wear (approximately 105 miles of hiking trails and paved roads). The second was after 30 days (about 160 miles cumulatively). As I research expected boot life, I find frequent recommendations to replace boots after about 500 miles (you can find much higher expected ranges). I am at about one-third of that and am concerned that I can't trust my treads on challenging hikes. When I select my next pairs, I think I will look elsewhere.
