It's certainly beautiful. If you have some knowledge of occult/spiritual/religious practices/secrets there's a lot in it for you to comb through. HOWEVER. Everyone was just too rich. It was cliche rich. Blondes and suits and cash and a very dull, pedestrian kind of hedonism. There was such a disparity between the depth of feeling and the lack of invention in the lives of the characters. People who think like that get a bit weird with it.
