Much more fun that it first appears
Clementoni. Ribbon-cut. No Poster. 500 pieces. 490mm x 360mm. Average piece size 353mm2.Made in Italy. This is a high-quality puzzle with a puzzle board thickness of just over 2mm. The pieces were pleasant to hold and to place.A convenience sample of the last 122 pieces to be placed found an almost ideal distribution, with approximately equal numbers of H, L, Y, and A-shapes. The reason why such a distribution is ideal is that when the sides of a piece are defined, knowing that it cannot be a particular shape reduces the number of pieces that have to be checked for fit. Not only was there an ideal distribution of piece shapes, but there was also good variety of connector geometry with tabs of different sizes, in different positions, and with different inclinations to the main axes. This also mean that what might have been a pain, the large area of sky, was instead resolved quickly.Piece Shape No. in sample As %H shape (2 blanks on one axis and 2 tabs on the other) 27 22.1%L Shape (2 b and 2t with each axis having one of each) 28 23.0%Y shape (3 blanks and 1 tab)) 30 24.6%A shape (3 tabs and 1 blank) 29 23.8%X-shape (4 blanks and no tabs) 5 4.1%+-Shape (4 tabs and no blanks) 3 2.5%Total no of pieces 122 100%The initial sort was for:1. Edges2. Bicycle3. Tower4. Pavement5. Light sky6. Dark skyThe puzzle was built in the order of the sort, with light and dark sky being combined. The puzzle was rated as two out of five for difficulty, with the excellent piece shape distribution and variation in connector geometry compensating for the large area of sky. Overall this was an enjoyable puzzle to build due in part to the speed which the piece and connector variability enabled the building of the sky. I rated it five out of five for entertainment.
