PHR / SPHR Exam For Dummies

Herzberg vs Hofstede, Civil Rights Act 1964 vs 1991, NLRB, labor unions vs management ULPs, WARN, and if all that was gibberish to you - then you need this book. Let me start off by saying, I wish I had read this book first! I bought this book after having purchased a couple of other guides and this one is by far the easiest to read and the most practical with down to earth information and strategies. If you plan on taking either the PHR or SPHR exam, then put this book in your arsenal. Obviously, this test is one that requires a significant amount of preparation and the material can get complicated/daunting rather quickly. The book has an easy to read format, good test taking tips, and I found the online resources very helpful though somewhat limited. You get 2 practice PHR exams and 2 practice SPHR exams for online resources. The tests explain the "why this answer is right" without making you feel like a moron, which I appreciated. Also, if you can answer the test prep questions, then you will be able to answer the questions on the real test with easy (prep seemed harder to me than the real thing). Like the title says, I used this book as a part of my studying process and passed the SPHR test the first time I took it.

I just took the exam about an hour ago. I first took the exam back in July of last year using a different training system. I failed. I spent a lot of money and failed. Other factors like my job played contributed as well. I was angry but determined to pass. I bought the PHR/SPHR for Dummies. Just in the initial pages, I already had a boost of confidence this book would help me pass. The tips they provide were extremely helpful. I found the practice exam mirrored more closely to the real thing unlike the other system I used. There is also a bonus with buying this book. They too through Wiley Test Banks have online tests! These were extremely helpful. Even the navigation is similar to the actual exam. Bottom line I passed. I can honestly say I wish I bought this first rather than the other system. I would have saved a considerable amount of money!

This book is amazing and great in assisting in my studying. Very easy to follow. The only issue is logging onto the website for the forms and test. I have tried repeatedly without success. I would have given it five stars if that wasn't an issue.

I mainly purchased this book for the practice questions/exam, as a supplement to another study guide I purchased. Unfortunately, the URL listed in the book didn't work, but a quick call to their Customer Service fixed that. I used their website for several weeks, utilizing their two PHR exams and splitting it into chapter-specific quizzes. Then one day only one test was available. I chatted with their online customer service but they 1) didn't understand the problem and said they'd give me an answer in 24-48 hours, 2) I never got a response. The remaining exam is the same exam from the book PHR/SPHR Professional in Human Resources Certification Study Guide Fourth Edition (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/111828917X/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) (same author/publisher as the Dummies book)- a book I already owned and used extensively. On a positive note, this book gives bite-sized introductions to the functional areas with recommendations for additional study at various government and professional websites. So in the end, the PHR/SPHR for Dummies did not meet my expectations. But for the price, it's worth the purchase as an addition to a more rigid study plan/resource.

HR Professionals aspiring to clear phr/sphr must buy this book. I recently (2018) cleared my phr exam and this book was of great help to me. The book helps you formulate a study plan, assists with understanding the concepts and the best part is their quiz. The book offers both online and text format to take practice tests, which helps you create the same exam like feel. The only tiny issue i had with the book was - since it was both for PHR and SPHR the material sometimes would be confusing. Ideally if the book for exlcusively for PHR or SPHR it would have been perfect. if you are planning to study for phr exam on your own, I would recommend this book and the HR BOK. These two books along with online free resources, you will not need anything else.
