Seems to work well. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it really helped with digging 13 holes for my fence. I still had to dig the dirt out with a shovel, but it was very easy, loose dirt then, and nice, straight walls. It will cut up roots up to ~1/8". Other than that, you still need to cut them with lopers etc. I like that it's electric, so don't have to deal with any of the hassle that comes with small gas engines and it "just works". It did trip my 15A circuit breaker several times, but that isn't a hassle for me. The selection of augers will come in handy for other projects. It would have cost the same to rent one for 3 days. Cheaper than back surgery. 🙂 I'd definitely recommend it.

Decide all my initial skepticism, I think this thing actually worked great! The handles could use a redesign But it did its job with no problem, and the clutch works really well to keep from jerking you around. As long as you have power nearby, I would say it works at least, as well as a small gas operated auger and I think it works better.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: Great auger. Love that it has reverse and that it’s electric! Made digging post holes so much easier (especially for a couple in their 60’s). Was missing the 12” extension pole but after emailing the company, they sent us a 3 pack of poles the next day!!! They’re awesome! Highly recommend! Outstanding hole auger! There are a 2", 4", 6" and 8" auger bits. This is not a toy and should be respected when using! Recommend someone with good upper body strength and good reflects. The anti-kickback really works.

The last time I drilled post holes was 35 years ago. I used a rented two-man gas-powered auger, and it practically killed me due to its weight and unreliability. Now, all these years later, I thought I'd try something different. This product is very much as advertised. It's sturdy, (relatively) light, easy to use, and cheap, at least compared to my time, the cost of renting an alternative, and factoring in the convenience of owning the tool, so you can spread out the work over as many days as you'd like, and then still have it to use in perpetuity. It also comes with two spare sets of pins, a spare set of brushes, (minimal) instructions. So, TLDR: Yes, it's worth it. Now a few comments about using it, which may help use it, and/or help you make your buying decision: As I mentioned, the auger is relatively light, but that doesn't mean it won't be tiring to use if you're not burly. I'm 6'1" and 150lbs, and at least for my application it's pretty tiring to use. This is probably due to the depth I was drilling (OK, getting on a bit, too). The deepest you can possibly drill with this auger is 38" at which point the base of the motor assembly is right on the ground. In practice, it's very hard to get down as deep as this because the length of the screw part of the drill bits is considerably shorter than this - closer to 22". This means that the soil you're drilling doesn't get ejected from the hole once you get down to about two feet deep. You have to yank the whole auger up and let the rotation of the bit throw the soil out. Generally speaking, it really helps to have someone else standing by who can rake the soil out of the way as you drill. This is both to stop the soil from falling back into the hole, and to save you from pulling the bit out quite so high as you yank it up when cleaning out the hole. I have three complaints about this product: * The auger bits would have been much better had the screw part come all the way to the top, rather than stopping six inches down. Frankly, it would have been even, even better had all of the bits been as long as the bit+extension pair currently comes, and with no extension provided. I appreciate that this probably would have made the packaging harder, and might have added a few bucks to the price, but it would have been worth it. You'd have to be really short not to have the extension fitted all the time, so making the bits longer instead would have been a better design decision in my opinion. * The handles are too short. I understand that for reasons of production engineering and shipping they probably want to keep them short, but this makes things considerably harder. In my case, I have to drill through about a foot of loam with pebbles, and then into hard adobe clay with some large rocks. When you hit a rock that's too big to be augered out along with the other soil, the bit will typically hook onto the rock, stall out on the rock, and then yank the motor unit out of your hands. If one had better purchase on the motor unit by means of longer handles this might happen less often. What's more, once this happens, the left-hand handle slams into your left leg with extreme prejudice. After a few bouts of this, I found my left leg bruised black and blue from the thigh down, and I was hobbling for a few days. My approach to handling this was to get some body armour. I got this product for want of anything better, and it seems to work reasonably well ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073RNJ57S ). Getting this extra padding clearly upped the price of the whole deal, but I still thought it was a good deal. * The power cord is too short. I appreciate that it's not supposed to be long enough to be able to plug in to the wall, but the cord is so short that it's hard to knot it onto an extension cord. If you don't do this, then when the auger gets ripped out of your hands (see above), then it also yanks the power cord out of your extension cord. As can be seen from the pics (closeup of handle with yellow extension), I was able to knot the cord onto an extension, but it's marginal, and because the knot is up next to the handle it means that you have lift the extra weight of the knot and the extension cord when you're lifting the auger. If you want to use a more heavy-duty 12 AWG extension, such as the orange one shown, then there's really no way that you can get it knotted onto the power cord on the auger. OK, so I can replace the power cord, but I don't think that I should have to. Likewise, I could replace the plug with a twist-lock connector, but all of my power cords have the normal 120V connector. All told, though, I'm unexpectedly pleased with both the operation of this unit, and with its price, so it gets a thumbs up from me notwithstanding my whining.

The PROYAMA Electric Post Hole Digger, 1700W, is a powerful electric auger. I have used it with the 8" bit to plant shrubs in rocky clay soil. The PROYAMA electric auger had no trouble going through hard pack soil and the rocks did not present any problem. The PROYAMA electric auger has held up well and is very easy to use, although it might be a little heavy for some smaller users.

Not a good product at all. Dug 6 holes, not even deep and not in hard soil. Grease starting pushing out of the gear box and the electric motor stared smelling burnt. Very disappointed. It ran the first couple of holes with ease and I had high hopes.

I had several fruit trees to plant today and this auger made the job so much easier. It’s surprisingly powerful but still easy to handle with just one person. The design is simple, has a reverse when in tougher soil. It worked perfectly from start to finish, saving me a ton of time and effort. Definitely better than renting one, and now I’ve got it ready whenever I need it.

I puchased this electric auger in mid-August 2025. When i tried it out it proved to be defective. After contacting PROYAMA Customer Service, explaining what the auger was and was not doing, i received a reply in less than 24 hours, which included an offer to receive a replacement auger. The new auger arrived several days ago, and i tested it out. It works without issue. The first try [using an extension cord plugged into mains power] was drilling repeated holes in sandy/gravely soil, which it did quickly and effortless to full depth. The second test was using my small 2000 watt [2500 watt surge] generator in soil with roots from willow and fir trees. Here the clutch and reverse functions proved valuable. When the bit caught a root and began to twist the auger in my hands, the clutch quickly disengaged the auger bit. Then it was a matter of putting the motor in reverse to release it from the root, putting it back into forward, and with a repeated lifting and lowering motion, let it cut through the roots. Again, it had plenty of power to drill the hole. And the auger itself is heavy enough to push the bit down, so no downward pressure is needed. I have not yet tried it in stoney or clay soil, so cannot comment on its effectivness in those conditions. Based on my experience, both with PROYAMA Customer Service, and the electric auger itself, I do recommend this product. If there are any issues with it in the future i will update this review, but i do not see that being likely.

I was missing a 15 inch extension in my kit contacted the manufacturer. They responded very quickly and I received the extension within four days. I use the drill with a 4 inch bit. I have clay soil seems to be doing the job very well I’m happy with the product has reverse and with the clutch mechanism inside you don’t spin with the drill meaning it leaves all your limbs attached to your body ha ha ha. I did take a few videos. I do recommend this tool and it also comes with the five-year warranty on the gearbox. Thanks for your support. I will try to send more pics

This is a great product. Very well built. Looks like quality control is pretty high. It drills through clay with no effort. The reverse feature is a great bonus. I run the unit off my 2000W generator easily, which makes it portable anywhere on our farm. I went to the Proyama website to see what else they make. I was surprised to see the little tiller I had bought branded under the Champion name. Apparently it’s built by Proyama. It’s great little tiller for between rows in the garden. Looks like Proyama makes great quality stuff at affordable prices. I certainly can’t find any fault in Chinese quality here!

See Photos of the fence I built with this machine in two weeks time (working by myself on my spare time) and some photos of a small repair I had to make on this auger. Pros: - Powerful machine, dug 15 (3ft deep) holes in hard clay with an 8 inch auger bit, for a 90ft fence. You won't be digging as fast as a two man auger though. You will have to dig out small and large stones with a crowbar, as this auger gets stuck on any stone larger than a champagne bottle plug/cap. - Quiet operation, requires no gasoline to run, no need to start engine each time you turn it on. - Reverse Gear is a saving grace when you get stuck on large rocks. - Reliable and sturdy, just dont keep pushing it after it gets stuck on a rock, or else you’ll burn out the clutch or electrical motor. Cons: - My auger came with terribly crimped power cables that ripped off during operation. I had to disassemble the trigger handle, apply solder to the two wires that run to the trigger, and re-crimp the two wires with the provided screws. It was an easy repair, just have to make sure the machine is unplugged before disassembly and trying to repair any electrical components!

This was exactly what we needed. Works very well!
