Organic Hemp Reusable Coffee Filter - Compatible With Chemex Coffee Makers (1, Chem)

Good for the average (cuppa) joe. Not for coffee snobs.
A cup of Chemex coffee, black, is my perfect cup of coffee. It’s smooth and really allows the subtle flavors of the coffee to shine. When I bought this reusable hemp filter as an ecofriendly alternative to paper filters, I was expecting it to produce the same cup of coffee. Silly me. I think because the material is more porous than paper, it allows more oils through, which makes for a very different flavor. Most people probably wouldn’t bat an eye at the difference, but to me it’s night and day — especially for something that I enjoy *because* of its subtleties.I’m no barista, but I guess I am a coffee snob. Thanks to the Bolio hemp filter for helping me embrace this part of myself. :)

Does a rose by any other name smell as sweet?
This filter is quite good in the filtration it provides, and the resulting flavor. I like the flavor and ease of the disposable paper filters better, however that is not good for the environment! I have not tried the stainless steel permanent filter, so I cannot compare. To say that you can merely “rinse out” this filter after use, is extremely misleading, however, for those of us who are rushed, or lazy! I tried that with disgusting results! What I have adopted as the best practice for a clean filter and pot, is: I let it dry, shake the grounds into the compost bin; rinse the grounds residue off under hot running water; fill my Chemex with hot water, adding a squirt of Dawn; plunge the hemp filter into the pot bottom, except for a corner to hold; swirl it around several times in both directions; rinse the filter well under running water; hang it to air dry; dump and rinse the Chemex well; and set it aside until morning! It takes about 5 — 10 minutes, but that is not what I call “rinsing”, as the hemp filter instructions state! And, I think that you likely would get the same quality from a scrap of unbleached cotton muslin! But you know, they say, “A rose by any other name, would smell as sweet”!

eco friendly, easy to use
this is a great product. i love how eco friendly it is. i love that i can reuse it.pros- eco friendly- doesn't affect coffee taste at all (i'm kind of a snob about coffee too)- easy to use- easy to fold to make it into the filter shape- easy to use with my glass pour over coffee filter- dries easily. i make coffee in the morning. while i drink my coffee, the filter + grounds cool in my glass pour over. then, i dump the grounds into my compost pile. then i wash the filter under cool water and ring it out. then i hang it up to dry. the filter dries very quickly and i am able to make another cup of coffee within an hour or so.cons- not really a "con" for me, but the coffee does stain the material. so it will be discolored. this isn't a problem for me at all, but be aware of this before you purchase it

Prefer the square cut for my 8 cup Chemex
The initial purpose was to have a filter that would work using preground coffee with an auto-drip grind. The square filter seems to work very well for this. Using Folgers coffee (don't judge) I was able to produce an enjoyable brew with 48g coffee to 887ml (30 oz.) water. My electric gooseneck kettle is the Hamilton Beach 1.2L which. This setup provides and affordable upgrade to your coffee habit that: is easy to use, is easy to clean, has minimalist aesthetics, is eco friendly, and no plastics in the brewing process!

Best Reusable Chemex Filter (square)
This reusable coffee filter is great. Very happy with this replacement filter for my Chemex pour over. Make sure to get the square version if you have a Chemex. This works just like the name brand Chemex square paper filters. Very easy to setup. There’s a curing procedure I followed before first use. The coffee grounds don’t get through the filter at all. The best part is it’s reusable. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a reusable filter for their Chemex.

No major complaints
Tried this as an alternative to paper Chemex brand filters. It works alright - no glaring issues, really. However, be aware it will not filter to the same extent as the paper filters. There is more oil passed through, and some very fine solids although not as much as a french press. We still hang on to it to use in a pinch if we run out of paper filters. It just provides a different result, which just comes down to personal preference.

Works Great - Low maintenance
I love this thing. It works just as well as the disposable filters, but I don't have to keep dumping money into primo, amazon-overpriced throw-aways. I don't think I've cleaned it since the first time I bought it. That might sound gross, but it really doesn't seem to need much maintenance. When I'm done with my coffee, I discard the grinds and run this filter over hot water. As long as you don't let it dry out, that seems to clean it well to me.I have not experienced any slipping issues as I read from other comments. It seems to stick to the glass well once you get it wet. It's nice to produce less waste.

Love this filter!
I love this so much! I bought it in the summer but I just started using it, I am really happy with this product. After I use it, I wash it with water and little bit of dish soap. It works with my chemex. No more paper!!

Good idea for sustainability, bad idea for taste.
Taste testing a cup of coffee from the hemp filter vs traditional paper is no contest, the traditional paper filter is by far better. Would recommend getting unbleached coffee filters so you can responsibly compost instead of going with this reusable filter.

great idea but it fails to execute and the quality seems really poor.
The stitching around the edges is coming away after only a few simple months use. I always gently hand-wash this so I dont see why the stitching would come undone; and not just a bit, the whole hem is lifting up at the corner. Going back to paper. Really disappointed, was hoping to have something that reduced waste. Also, it drains a little to fast when making coffee, its a great idea but it fails to execute and the quality seems really poor.

Excellent! Reduce waste. Save money.
I love this filter. Hadn't heard of hemp filters before coming across this one. I love the fact that it doesn't grow any mold or anything so I can just give it a quick rinse under the tap after using. Does not flavor the coffee after the first couple times. Definitely would recommend buying this. To save waste and money!

No metal filter required
This is a fantastic alternative to paper filters. I bought it for my Chemex - 8 cup and it works perfectly on it's own; no supporting filter required. Absolutely no coffee grounds make it through and there is no flavour to speak of. Clean up it a breeze. I just dump, rinse and hang the filter over the Chemex to dry.

Gives a weird taste to coffee
I thought it was a good ecological option but it gave a weird taste to the infused coffee.. I don’t recommend this product.
