Works over old cat5
I did not want to replace a 25 year old 15meter long cat5 cable in the basement. So far it was carrying max 100mb, but with packet errors, as halfway this cable was soldered together in a junction box…. So i bought these units (2) a master and a client. Configured it, made 2 patch cables rj11-rj45, used 2 pairs in mimo. And i got 1gb with good performance over it. Each unit connected to a lan switch . So point to point. The manual is good, only thing is that it is not entirely clear how to setup qos , but i do not need it right now. The g.hn technology in these boxes permforms much better then powerline Good purchase

Impressed
My house has a bit of a Wi-Fi dead spot at one end and many of these so-called "mesh" Wi-Fi systems and HomePlug powerline adapters underperform horribly, so I was left thinking about whether I could reuse some existing cabling to install a second Wi-Fi AP in the dead zone. The wiring in this house only has three pairs (so not enough for gigabit ethernet) and I've been trying to avoid fishing new cables through the walls! I stumbled across these not really knowing what to expect or whether the speed claims would in any way live up to what was advertised. Let me say these devices have far exceeded my expectations so far. Over probably 20 metres of telephone wiring running through the walls, these devices claim to be syncing at 1700mbps and real-world speed tests across the link using iperf3 completely saturate the gigabit ports so performance couldn't really be any better. I have now been able to install a second AP on the end of the link and it performs just as well as if it were wired into my router using Cat6. It almost feels like magic to see these kinds of speeds over telephone wire! For the most part, setting them up was pretty much plug-and-play and they function as an ethernet bridge out of the box. They do have a web interface for configuring various advanced options, including G.hn parameters, IP addresses, VLAN tags, QoS/DSCP and others. The interface isn't terribly intuitive or friendly but it gets the job done and you may not even need to interact with it at all. Be aware that these devices are supplied with EU power adapters so you may need an adapter for your country if you are outside the EU, as I am. Another note is that typical phone sockets in the UK are actually BT 431A/631A connectors rather than RJ11 so you may need modem/fax adapters (which I found in a local store) in order to get them plugged in, although I understand that ADSL microfilters would also work fine for this purpose if you have any of those lying around. All in all, I'm happy with the performance of these and would highly recommend if you have any old telephone wiring that you're looking to reuse.
