Corded ones never need batteries - saves money. This model has a retractable cord that hides it when you carry it somewhere. It is small and lightweight. This is my 2nd purchase of the same model. I went ahead and purchase a 3rd one for backup. I definitely prefer it over other wireless mice I've had in the past. It's lightweight and fits my hand pretty well (I was looking for a smaller mouse because I've got small hands). What's also nice is that you can use it on pretty much any surface and it works well. The only issue I've have is that occasionally the cord-winder (if that's what it's called) gets tangled and I have to spend a minute or two fixing it, but other than that, it's great.**Update: It's been nearly 3 years and it finally stopped working, but I'm buying a replacement because I liked it so much.
