It's very slick to the touch, I was expecting something a little more rough but it's acceptable. The hole for the lock is small and the tie downs on either end is small so if you plan to put a bungee cord through, it has to be small, ie not more than 3mm diameter. Using this box as part of my disaster kit. Review: This is my first Pelican case, and I can see why they are so popular. The Quality is excellent and the case will clearly protect whatever is inside. I particularly like that they have a built in gasket seal to keep water out and make it air tight. It works great! They also have a one way valve to allow air pressure to escape from the case if there is a change in air pressure like when flying in an airplane. This appears standard for Pelican cases, and it gives me greater confidence in their cases. I will definitely be buying more Pelican cases for protecting my most important things. Its perfect size for passport (the micro 1040 is not due to the plastic inner liner; if you remove ok but need to add 4mm gasket) This is deeper than the micro 1040 and because it doesn't have the plastic inner liner (but plastic tray) translates to a little more usable space.
