So, this book opens with Lu finding out his mother is having a baby, and then becomes a great take about making mistakes and rising above terrible choices. Reynolds ties out his amazing series with a very honest tale with some tough life lessons built-in. Addiction is a big part of this story, and I think it’s an important and relatable topic for middle grade literature. Our kids today are seeing and experiencing addiction in staggering numbers and we need to discuss the consequences and impacts of this disease more openly. And what makes this book even better is we finally learn so much more about Coach. His childhood, his past, his philosophies, his family...
