The B vitamins are non methylated
I gave this product 3 stars because it’s well rounded but Pregnacare Preconception uses standard, non‑methylated forms of the B‑vitamins: • Folate → Folic acid (not methylfolate) • B12 → Cyanocobalamin (not methylcobalamin) • B6 → Pyridoxine HCl (not P5P) So none of the B‑vitamins in Pregnacare are in their active, methylated forms. Why this matters if you have MTHFR If you carry an MTHFR variant, your body may: • Convert folic acid → 5‑MTHF slowly or poorly • Convert cyanocobalamin → methylcobalamin less efficiently • Have folate in the blood, but not enough inside the cells • Struggle with TTC because methylation is needed for• DNA formation • egg quality • early embryo development • homocysteine balance So Pregnacare gives you folate, but not in the form your body uses most easily. If your body doesn’t use methylated B vitamins well — or at all — this product is a solid option. You may still need extra folate, depending on your own situation. I personally use Jarrow’s methyl folate to fill in the gaps. People with the MTHFR gene variant often struggle when trying to conceive because the body may have folate circulating in the blood, but not enough getting inside the cells, where it’s needed for DNA formation, cell division, and early embryo development. Using active folate (5‑MTHF) helps support that pathway more directly. • MTHFR affects conversion, not intake. • So someone can have “normal folate levels” on labs but still have poor cellular folate availability. • That matters for TTC because early embryo development depends on methylation, DNA synthesis, and cell division — all folate‑dependent processes.
