Brew-tiful Replacement, Fits Like a Dream
“Dropped my French press like a rookie barista, and thought my mornings were ruined. Enter this Bodum carafe — slid right into the frame, no fuss, no leaks, and suddenly I was back in the coffee game. The borosilicate glass laughs at boiling water and doesn’t hold on to old flavors. Honestly, it saved my mornings and probably my marriage. Strong enough to handle my caffeine addiction — and that’s saying a latte.”

Carafe/beaker is perfect glass and a comfortable fit
Like many others who are ordering or have purchased the Bodum Spare Glass Carafe for French Press Coffee Maker, 3-Cup, 0.35-Liter, 12-Ounce (3-Cup in Bodum world is NOT 3 Starbucks size cups or mugs), my purchase was to replace the glass which I broke into many little shards and pieces. I waited several weeks before breaking down and buying another and I can act as encouragement for getting one if you have the housing and no carafe. I received a genuine Bodum replacement inside a box which fit smoothly into my French press. I will also add that I purchased a "used" product from Amazon Warehouse and I couldn't be happier by saving a little money, too. The packaging contains a recommendation that if the fit is tight, one should soak the glass in hot water to aid in its fit. I found that by not rinsing the soap from the carafe after initially washing it, it slid in with ease. I then rinsed the entire French press. I would not hesitate to replace my filter screen when the time comes because this little press is wonderful for coffee and tea leaves, it's easy to clean, and I've found it to be much appreciated, especially when I ran out of Chemex paper filters for my drip carafe. With these two coffee systems, I'm all set any time the power goes out and my neighbors know they can always receive a tasty warm beverage in my home even if we enjoy it by candle or flashlight.

Get yourself a spare for the inevitable breakage!
We love our French Press, but I have a habit of breaking at least 2 pieces of glassware a month, so of course this carafe is no exception. I just keep a spare around at all times - lol. This is a recommended coffee press from Cook's Illustrated, who wrote: "Tasters praised the coffee from this classic pot: “good flavor, lots of sediment,” with a “pleasant” taste and a “slightly richer,” “not-too-thin texture.” It’s easy and straightforward to set up and clean. But the thin glass walls of this traditional press lost heat faster than insulated pots did. It does a great job if you’re drinking the coffee right away, but it cools off quickly." Their favorite French Press, however, is the Bodum Columbia French Press Coffee Maker, Double Wall, 8 Cup: "This thick, insulated pot was as simple to use as a traditional glass press, but it kept coffee hotter much longer. It’s also sturdier, with a round, comfortable handle. It took top honors in our tasting, producing coffee that tasters called “rich,” “rounded,” “nutty,” and “full-bodied.” Note: This model might temporarily become harder to find. The manufacturer has confirmed it is not discontinued, but it unfortunately will not be back in stock until early 2015." Cook's Illustrated never steers me wrong; this thing makes some GOOD coffee and my husband gets fresh-brewed every morning made by yours truly :)

Same glass carafe as the 'original'. Works great.
Item is as described and easily swapped out. Just loosened the screw on the handle, slipped the old one out and slipped the new one in. Be sure to tighten the screw well to ensure it will not slip out. $20 for just the glass carafe or $40 for the whole set, not much of a decision. I use this 12-cup capacity for parties or when I have company over. For daily use, I had a Bodum 6 cups which I cracked after many years of use. I decided to go a different route and purchased the SterlingPro Double Wall Stainless Steel French Coffee Press, 1 Liter. No more breaking and cracking. It just arrived today and I haven't had the chance to try it out yet.

Exactly what we needed to replace the Bodum carafe I broke this week.
Exactly as needed to replace a broken carafe. Price is fair for a Bodum carafe. Quick delivery was just what I needed to get back to my coffee habit!

Love French Press Coffee. Unfortunately, Carafes are Rather Fragile.
The above headline says it all. They are fragile and stand no chance of surviving a fall to the kitchen floor or even inadvertent hard contact in the sink. So, care must be taken. Fortunately, these Bodum replacements are precision-made to fit as perfectly inside their stainless basket as the original. We've used Bodum French presses for years and, unfortunately, have confirmed the last sentence several times!
