Great pellet rifle
Purchase for entertainment and pest control out here in the country. I have about 200 shots thru it and love this rifle. Had a spare Leopold scope so I put that on, the ones it comes with I threw away, and shoots as accurate as my capabilities. Shot a squirrel at appx 150 feet out of a tree. Didn’t have any pellet drop that far out with an 18 or 19 grain hollow point was dead before it hit the ground. Some people complained about the trigger but I’m satisfied, better than the Daisy it replaced. It’s quite and easy to cock. The stock has a descent finish and made of beechwood however I may refinish it one day darker but nothing to do with performance or durability. After now owning a .22 caliber I don’t see going back to a .177. If this is in the price range you’re looking at go for it. Made in America and a 5 year warranty 🇺🇸👍🏻 and reliable enjoy shooting with the nitro-piston over a springer myself. It don’t make your hands feel like your doing a hundred on a Harley (if you know you know)!

Accurate and Powerful Rifle
Great and Accurate .22 Rifle! This is a great rifle when you purchase at the lower end of the price range, as prices do fluctuate. It is pretty heavy and sturdy. The wood finish is very nice. I did not mount the scope that came with the rifle, as usually package scopes are rarely ever good, so either plan on using the plastic iron sights or upgrading your scope. I had a budget Center Point 3x9x32 scope from a previous rifle, and it pairs perfectly and I’ve zero’d it in perfectly. Crosman makes CP so makes sense why it would work well together. I’ve had very good luck with the Crosman Hollow points and are very accurate, the rifle does like the RWS super domes the best but it’s been hard to find them in stock and it’s cheaper to buy the Crosman Pellets for plinking and such and are still very accurate. Remember to lube your rifle after every 250 shots or so! Also very quiet and it isn’t loud as my previous Gamo.

second time around for the second time
Come on Amazon, stop sending open box items to your customers who expect a new product. It is dishonest and cheap of you. If an item is “open box” or used or previously rejected, SAY SO!Crosman, your quality control needs an overhaul. This is the second time I have received a rifle that clearly was not assembled properly. This makes you look cheap as well.OK, now that I have that off my chest…,What I liked about the Crosman valiant .22 rifle ;1. The weight and balance were nice which made this rifle easy to handle.2. It is, indeed, very quiet.3. It is obviously more powerful than the Vantage but that means a harsher recoil and needs more effort to cock it. I had to put an aftermarket recoil pad on it but I am 76 and don’t have the muscle padding I once had. I did actually enjoy the recoil. As to the cocking effort, it is just a few pounds more than the Vantage so I believe almost anyone can cock this rifle.4. The mechanics of it seemed snug and smooth and I really liked the way the barrel locks back into the shooting position. I don’t think this rifle will have “barrel-droop” problems.5. The plastic cowling on the barrel is well made and doesn’t move or rattle. It also makes it easier on the hand when I slap the barrel down to cock it. It does look kind of cool once you get used to it and keeps the rifle quiet.6. Scope mounts. They actually worked quite well both on the scope that came with the rifle (more about that later) and the bug buster I mounted. They held up without movement for about 350-400 shots. What was OK with the Valiant;1. The open sights do work, seem solid enough even though they are plastic and are easy to sight through.2. Crosman has never been famous for their great triggers and the Valiant is no exception. However, it is not their worst trigger either. It pulls hard and does not adjust very much but it is consistent and crisp on the break. A trigger upgrade is definitely on my agenda. What I didn’t like about the Valiant;1. The scope. It’s clear but has very bad eye relief making it very difficult to center your eye on the scope. It’s usable for short range.A quick history;I have a Crosman Vantage .22 and have put at least 50,000 pellets through it. It is my favorite air rifle. I also own an Air Arms TX200 M lll which is considered to be one of the best spring piston rifles made. It is so accurate it is almost boring to shoot.I bought the first Vantage about 10 months ago but returned it because the barrel was not mounted into the stock properly and I couldn’t get any kind of a grouping. Got a second one which I still have. The barrel being off line in the stock is the same problem I saw with the first Valiant causing the same accuracy problem. I am returning it and have re-ordered a new one. I think this rifle has potential if I can get one that is assembled properly. I like to shoot long range for air guns and a lot of the reviews I read say it is quite accurate so I’m giving it a second chance like I did with the Vantage. I will let you know how it turns out.The second valiant I ordered arrived and it is now past the 30 day return period. I kept this one and I am very happy with it. I’m going to give this rifle a 4 star review so look there under my name at the top of this review.Evidently I can’t do a new separate review so I will do it here.I gave the new rifle I received 4 stars. The reason is not because of the scope because I knew about that going in. I am strictly reviewing the rifle now. The second Valiant I received came in an obviously new, unopened box. Thank you! The four star rating is because this rifle is kind of pellet picky. It definitely doesn’t like any Crosman pellets I’ve tried even at short range. I shoot at 20 yds. and 40 yds. at targets and cans. I use a gun rest on a table. Arthritis prevents me from shooting free hand. I use a scope ( UTG 3-12x44 Accushot ir ) because of bad eyesight. With the right pellet I can shoot a 3/4” 5 shot grouping at 40 yds. with some consistency. I can shoot 1” groups of 10 shots at the same range. In other words this rifle, when properly assembled, is quite accurate . It is also powerful. I’m setting up a target trap at 50 yds. soon and expect this rifle to handle that range easily.I did end up having to shim the scope a bit to counteract for “barrel droop” but that is not the big deal some people claim it to be.I have put about 1,000 pellets through it so far and I enjoy shooting it very much. It definitely needs blue locktite on the whole scope mount assembly. I also use blue Locktite on the barrel screws but it is not holding. I noticed upon receiving this rifle that the barrel screws that hold the barrel in the fore stock were not really tight. I notice the same on the first Valiant that I sent back. I estimated the force these screws were set at to be about 25 inch lbs. so that is where I keep them. The rifle seems to like that. I also loosened the barrel screws on my Vantage to 25 inch lbs. because I had them down very tightly and the Vantage shoots better now. Green locktite may be the answer. The scope assembly is holding up well.I replaced the trigger adjustment screw with a slightly longer one to help with an easier trigger pull and that helped a lot. Warning, if you try this please be very careful. If you adjust the longer trigger screw too far the rifle will not cock when you pull the barrel down. The result is that if you release the barrel it will snap back up into the firing position with a great deal of force that can injure you and the rifle. If you adjust the screw to make the trigger too soft, say under 1 1/2 lbs. pull, the rifle can go off with just a bump. The trigger screw that comes in the rifle is short for reasons of liability on behalf of the manufacturer.I strongly recommend the UTG universal dovetail to picatinny adaptor for mounting a scope. It’s the only adapter that fits on the Crosman dovetail because of the high rounded top.The composite barrel shroud is still very solid. So, is this rifle worth the money? I got mine for $177 and it is definitely worth it. I see that the price has gone up quite a lot, $248. I would not buy at that price. Up to you. Good luck and shoot safely.

Hits VERY hard
This is not a toy. Punctured 1/2 inch plywood back stop easily using crosman hollowpoint .22 pellets. The sound was low enough as to not alert the neighbors. It took me about 50 pellets to get the included scope dialed in to about nickel size grouping. The wood stock is nicer than the photos show. I thought it was a plastic, wood colored stock from the photos. In hand, the wood grain is actually very nice. The weight is a bit heavy but I would absolutely buy this firearm again.I really do like this rifle. It packs a serious punch and it's quiet. Fills the wtshtf notch that I needed filled. I would buy again at the price point I initially purchased it.

Doesn't last.
Worked great the first month. Power dropped off significantly and it's just sitting in a corner now.

Excellent value.
This rifle is extremely accurate right out of the box using the fixed sights. If you use good marksmanship technique smaller than a dime shot groups are the norm. I’ve gone through a can of Crosman 14.4 gr. and a can of Exact Jumbo heavy Diablo 1,175 g/ 18,13gr pellets. The only rounds not on target were my fault. The optical sight is a good value and does a fine job. I haven’t had any of the issues with the scope mentioned in other posts. Over all quality of the rifle I feel is excellent. If the weapon does not hold up over time it most likely be due to user error.
