REACHER AC182 LARGE DISPLAY ALARM CLOCK [Updated]
[SEE THE UPDATE AT THE END]Let's face it, they just don't make quality alarm clocks like they did many years ago. Now, it's the Wild West out there with so many to choose from, with names you can't pronounce, but it's like playing Russian Roulette. Most are made in China, you're not going to get away from that. I spent a couple hours on Amazon researching clocks, and to cover myself, ordered two different models. Fortunately I picked two winners.I was looking for nice size alarm clock with large numbers. This fit the bill. It has a 3" digital readout with big, robust, green numbers. Kinda didn't like the green, but few clocks have numbers this big, so I can live with it. Would be nearly perfect with a nice cobalt blue. There is an adjustment wheel on the right side to dim it if you need to.The unit is powered with an adapter that plugs into the back, between two USB ports to charge cell phones. Also on the back, is the compartment for the included CR2032 lithium battery back-up. In case of a power outage, the display will go blank, and the alarm will not sound, but your time and alarm settings will be saved.Pretty much all the action takes place on the top, which is convenient. This clock has two alarms, and the alarm is loud. In the middle is the snooze button. On each side of that are 2 adjustment buttons to go forward in time, or backward in time, when you are setting the time and alarm. There are two buttons on the left, TIME|SET and AL1.2|SET; and there are two buttons on the right AL2|ON-OFF and AL1|ON-OFF.Press the TIME|SET button once and the hours will blink. Use the two adjustment buttons to set the correct hour. Pressing and holding it will accelerate the process. Hit the button again, the minutes will blink. Hit the button again and you can choose between 12H and 24H for standard time and 24-hour military time. When you choose standard time, you'll get AM and PM icons on the display. Press the button again and select the correct year. Press the button again and select the correct month. Press the button again and select the correct day. Press the button again, and you can select from 5 to 60 to choose how many minutes you want your snooze to be. This is a real neat feature, as most others are permanently set at 9 minutes, which go by pretty quickly. If you want to check the month, date, day of week and year, press the snooze button.Press the AL1.2 button and on the display the A1, first alarm LED indicator will be lit, and the hours will blink. Use the two adjustment buttons to set the correct hour. Press the button again, the minutes will blink. Press the button again and the default of "1-7" will be displayed, representing the wake-up days. Use the adjustment buttons to choose from "1-5" (Mon-Fri), "6-7" (Sat-Sun), and "1-7" (Mon-Sun). Press the button again, and do the same thing for A2, the second alarm. The other two buttons, AL2|ON-OFF and AL1| ON-OFF, are used to turn on the alarms, and when they are engaged, their respective LED indicators will be lit. The alarm will sound for four minutes if no action is taken. To shut-off the alarm, press ANY button except for the Snooze button, and it will automatically be set for the next day. When the alarms are engaged, pressing these buttons will disengage them. The clock has a little stand at the bottom which has a couple rubber feet to help keep it from sliding. The instructions are very clear, and they have a instructional video on YouTube under "Kstar ANJANK -- The Teaching Video of AC-182 Large Alarm Clock."If you're looking for a clock that is a little larger, this one is very impressive, well made, and user friendly.[UPDATE]I purchased this 12/29/20 along with a Dreamsky. I used the Dreamsky first. By 11/12/23 the display on the Dreamsky began to dim, so I began to use the Reacher. I really like this clock. It was easy to read, and keeps good time. However, on 12/09/23, the alarm failed. I was very disappointed. Now, I want to be fair about this. Did it fail because it is not a good alarm clock; or did it fail, because the components were already 3 years old? I don't know. To me, you should always have a spare alarm clock, in case your alarm clock fails. I know many people use the alarm on their phone. I never felt comfortable with that, and I would rather have an actual alarm clock.I'm not going to alter my original assessment. It wouldn't be right. However, be aware, if you purchase this as a spare, over time, it may deteriorate and not function after a certain length of time.

Perfect for our application
We selected this clock for use outside under our deck, out of the weather, because its large 3" tall digits would be visible from a long distance away. This past summer we finally put in a patio with a fire pit, kitchen and spa, and outside in the evening we sometimes found ourselves wondering what time it was getting to be... we've been trying to ween ourselves from cell phones for at least a few minutes each evening! :-) We thought it might be nice to have a clock for those times when we cared about what time it is.After looking at numerous clocks, we landed on this one not only because of digit size, but because the display color looked to be a nice comfortable green; it's got a really sleek flat face; the housing appeared not too deep (it's only about 1.5"); the base looked to be easily removable; and numerous other reviews indicated it dimmed nicely (so as not to be too bright on a dark night). All of those aspects turned out to be true. The display color is really pleasant... blue would be nice, too, but the green is very easy to look at when the display is pretty much all you see at night. The face is perfectly flat with a very small bezel. The base comes off easily (and can be reinstalled if desired), and the shallow depth worked out perfectly for the way I wanted to mount it. And the dimming is perfect: it's fully adjustable from bright to very dim, and a setting nearer the very dim end of the spectrum is perfect for visibility at night without being too bright and annoying.I installed the clock up under our (waterproof) deck, about 10' off the patio floor, and it not only looks nice (day or night) but it's easily readable 50' or so away at the far end of the patio where the fire pit is located. I can't comment on it's two alarms since I won't ever use them, although I'm sure they work fine. It's got a back-up battery installed to maintain settings & time when the included little AC adapter is unplugged or there's a power glitch. The battery doesn't power the display, but that's understandable since it's just a small flat lithium cell and the display would drain it pretty quickly.Since we've only had it less than a week, it's hard to say how well it will maintain time over time, but so far so good. The only thing I'd really like to see added, and I'd gladly pay another $10-15 for it, would be circuitry to maintain perfectly accurate time using WWV or GPS (or maybe even a cell signal). I have several clocks in the house that use WWV, as does my watch, and they maintain accurate time down to the second.Overall this clock is exactly what I expected and is perfect for our application. Hopefully it keeps working for a long time.

Simple and easy to read
I like my new alarm clock. I like easily knowing what time it is in the middle of the night without having to fiddle with my phone or watch. I like being able to easily read the time from across the room. I love the highly adjustable brightness so that I can see the display in bright sunlight or dim the display to almost nothing for the dark of night. This clock is almost perfect! I do wish it had a little more heft, as it can be easy to knock over. That bring said, it is not a show stopper. It is just different than my old clock which was heavier and did not knock over as easily. Also, setting the alarm is different than a standard alarm clock, but it is easy enough to do, and it is easy to figure out and intuitive. I would recommend this clock. It is pleasing to look at and super useful. I love the green color and big size of the numbers which is why I bought it.The alarm sound is different than a standard alarm clock, and it is not changeable. The alarm sound reminds me of my house alarm. That is what it sounds like. Not my favorite, but it is unmistakable, easy to hear, and it does the job of waking me up easily.
