8BITDO deliver another quality product!👍🏼
Fantastic piece of kit. Premium quality sticks and buttons, no noticeable lag. Have bought a few 8bitdo controllers and they always deliver 100%!

So I saw a few reports of this controller causing issues when used alongside Gboard, decided to take a chance on it because of the price and knowing 8bitdos other controllers are nice. At first I was having intermittent lag issues, but those have all gone since updating to the One UI 7 beta. I'm guessing whatever was causing the issue has been fixed in android 15? Now it's working absolutely flawlessly. Just thought it would be handy to know if anyone is looking at getting one of these. It's a great controller, really comfortable to hold. It's basically a 8bitdo ultimate controller that splits in half.

In short : I am very mixed on this! Although it feels quite subjective. Comfortable, and well built but i feel it should not be labelled an Ultimate controller, as it's intentionally missing Ultimate features, and ones that even the cheapest controller in their line the 8Bitdo Micro has. a Nightmare to service / clean to boot.. in Looooooong: On one hand, it works well with what it sets out to do, it connects to your iPhone or Android phone and works as an X-input controller, it is also very comfortable and does not suffer from the inward turned handles as much as other ultimate controllers due to the smaller size, the face buttons are snappy membrane, the bumpers are (quite loud) tact switches, sticks and triggers are hall effect. the D-pad stands out, as even though it looks exactly like a SNES D-pad, it feels almost exactly like a vita one, with soft clicky switches under a membrane pad which is my favorite part of this controller! Unfortunately this is where the negatives start, the controller does not have any kind of USB audio or power passthrough, which isn't a big deal for some and wasn't for me either, til i realized the fact that it blocks off most iPhone's bottom speaker perfectly with an air tight seal, which most of the sound comes through on iPhones.. i also imagine it blasting noise in an airtight space is very good for the speaker, even if you can live with just sound from the earpiece speaker. It also felt a little high in latency, due to the wireless nature which is something i'm not usually too sensitive to with other controllers, even 8-bitdo ones on the same phone, but it felt a little more noticeable here. trying to wire it or sticking an angled charging cable in there gets messy and wobbly quick. (You can somewhat get around this by using a case with a u shaped bottom like official apple cases tend to have, although this makes the phone quite a bit more slippery and can cause it to come loose.) My personal unit came with a very loud right trigger and a completely silent left one, annoyed by this i tried to open the MG controller up, and it's spring mechanism BIT me more times than 3 times, it's just about the least serviceable controller i've tried to open up, which i do to all of my controllers to clean them up every couple years.. which isn't happening with this one, i also could not find a single disassembly guide online, which leads me to believe i'm not the first one to struggle opening it. It defeated me in the end, which is the first controller to do so. Somewhat of a side note that's very disappointing, and since it's not an advertised feature it feels a little wrong to criticize.. but i feel i have to.. is the fact that even though 8bitdo made it, and it's part of the "Ultimate Controller" line, they for some reason locked out their insanely wide range of compatible devices connection wise seemingly on purpose.. It also drops the 4 input modes every single 8bitdo controller has so it won't connect to anything looking for a Switch or PS4 controller. This is already a huge bummer, But even more disappointing is that Switch is one of it's main supported platforms of their ultimate line, yet this does not connect to it, which is insanely disappointing as the Nintendo switch and OLED fit perfectly and would be an amazing controller in handheld mode for the price of a single Joy-Con, but this is locked out for some reason, when all their other controllers, even the bottom of the line like the $20 Micro, it doesn't seem to me like a hardware limitation as some of their first ever controllers were able to do this, and even those were updated for Switch 2 support recently. This even introduces problems on iPhone, as the feature to mimic a Switch pro controller or a DualShock for example is very handy on a platform with limited controller remapping like iPhone, there is a quick button swap feature available, but this isn't as convenient as it messes up the controls for something like remote play, which is mapped right straight out the box. I think you can negate this somewhat by creating multiple profiles for this, but the iPhone ultimate app does not see it, so i can't... really try it.. unless i hook it up to the PC again, so it's easier to switch to my $20 Micro controller sometimes, not my $50 "Ultimate" controller which should never be the case. So what could have been a 5 star review turns into a 3 as it seems it was intentionally held back for some reason and even though almost all these issues could be fixed with a software update, 2 years later, that seems like it's not gonna happen. Which is a shame, cause when it works it's a REALLY comfortable controller.
