Ortofon MC-3 Turbo Moving Coil (Black)

Not a great cart, but a FAN-TAS-TIC cart!!!!Very crisp & detailed!!!... For it to be a moving coil it puts out very high range... so much in fact that I didn’t have to purches a new phone stage... If your an Ortofan fan like me and your conseidering the 2M bronze or Black you’ll be better pleased by this cart over the two that just mentioned....

I purchased this cartridge as a complementary cartridge to the super OM 40 I already had. The MC 3 is more comfortable with playing older records. It does not let you hear all ticks and scratches or press errors. But it still sounds very natural and a bit more relaxing thant the OM40. The major difference I can hear is the soundstage, analytics and upper mids which is better produced by the OM40. The lower end though might be tighter from the MC 3. I only have one deck so I can't really say which cartridge is better. For me the OM 40 is still the better one but I use the MC 3 now for everyday listening. One of the reason why I purchased the MC 3 is because in combination with the SME 3009 Series III I can get the resonance frequency lifted to around 15Hz. Which is close to the recommended frequency range by Poul Ladegaard of 'Bruel og Kjaer' in a paper released in 1977. The Thorens deck has been damped to get close to the Q 0.5 recommended in the same paper.After almost a week playing records with this cartridge, the sound has improved. More balanced and the soundstage has improved. Details are still slightly better with the OM40. But I think that is because of the needletype and can not say for sure. I highly recommend this cartridge. For this price it is the best I could hope for and acknowledges that Ortofon rules if you want to listen to music and not just sound.

AKTUALISIERUNG:Nachdem ich gelernt habe, dass manche Systeme ihr Potenzial erst an vergleichsweise guten und teuren Vorverstärkern ausspielen können, halte ich es für möglich, dass in der richtigen Kette das MC 3 Turbo viel besser ist, als ich es beschreibe. Ich relativiere also: An meiner Kette (Vorverstärker NAD PP2 für 120 €) klang das System bei weitem nicht so gut, wie z. B. Das Rega oder das Denon DL 103. Es kann aber sein, dass es an besseren Vorverstärkern viel besser klingt als diese beiden. Hilft Ihnen das????Alte Rezension:Das System gibt Höhen klar und sauber wieder, im Vergleich mit einem Vinyl Master Blue von Ortofon bzw. einem Rega Exact (beides MM Systeme) ist mir folgendes aufgefallen (Vorsicht, mein Ohr ist subjektiv ...): das Rega Exact löst nicht ganz so gut auf, klingt aber wesentlich voller und das "Tiefenfundament" ist breiter aufgestellt. Bei bestimmten Passagen von Beethovens Klavierkonzerten ist das MC 3 Turbo System "zwischen den Boxen gefangen", ich bin im wunderschön detailreichen Tonlabor, während das Exact mich in einen großen Orchestersaal entführt, in dem die Töne zuweilen ein wenig undifferenzierter daherkommen. Das Ortofon Vinyl-Master ist aus meiner Sicht ein sehr guter (und vergleichsweise günstiger) Kompromiss zwischen den geschilderten Extremen. Ein Fazit???: Es gibt sicher gute und weniger gute Systeme. Das MC 3 Turbo ist ein gutes. Für mich ist es in den Tiefen und in der "Räumlichkeit" für den Preis aber nicht gut genug. Ob es für SIE aber die richtige Wahl sein würde, hängt von Ihrer Anlage, ihrem Gehör, Ihren Präferenzen und Ihrer Musik ab. Mit dem MC 3 Turbo machen Sie sicher keinen Fehler, ob aber es genau für SIE das Nonplusultra ist, wissen Sie erst, wenn Sie's gehört haben. Und wenn Sie glauben, das sei alles blödes Geschwätz, hat Audio Technica für Sie das AT 95 gebaut ...

Easy to install. Fine sound, maybe a tad bright. Fits perfectly if you have darker sounding speakers and want a good balance by adding more crisp details with this cartridge. Does noet need mc phono stage, mm is enough.

Ich habe damit mein (damals sorgfältig ausgewähltes)Ortofon X3 MC-System ersetzt.Das hatte zwar sicher noch keine 1000 Betriebstunden, wohl aber 20 Jahre auf dem Buckel.Jetzt bin ich begeistert vom neuen transparenten Klang bis zur letzten Rille. Hätte mir diese Verbesserung so nicht träumen lassen und sehe meine Plattensammlung enorm aufgewertet. Kann jederzeit mit CD mithalten. Klingt sogar noch plastischer und glockenklar. (SME 3009 S2 improved)Selbst alte Aufnahmen ('67) haben ihre Patina verloren.Super!
