Takes time but works well
This is one of those things that you don't see an immediate effect but over time it is noticeable. I give it to my older blue and gold macaw who has started feather picking in her middle age (she's in her late 20s). It does reduce the behavior. She doesn't seem to mind it sprinkled on her wet food or even mixed into water. I do offer two bowls of water-mixed and fresh and she drinks from both. It dissolves very easily and seems consistent in quality. It's really easy to use, and is not clumpy. It is pretty expensive though, but worth it to help her not pick at herself.

What to help with hormonal parrots?
I have a couple of female Great Billed Parrots and the younger one has been hormonal for about 6 months now, especially with screaming. This stuff had a good effect from the first day! Still the occasional screaming a week later but much better. I just sprinkle the recommended amount on her food (wet or dry) and she seems to like it.

Seller Fixed Issue Asap + How We Use Product
Updating My Previous Review cuz the item came in a broken container torn apart on the bottom, with contents spilled out inside packaging envelope, so unusable... it was a mess. But the seller made it right & resent a new one ASAP which arrived in 2-3 days. As far as the product: Pros: So glad other bird companies decided to fill the hole AviTech left behind for so many of us. It works very much the same & last about the same. We sometimes brew a cup of chamomile tea & add this in for super hormonal days. It can be sprinkled on food. Doesn’t mix well in water but is possible (just mix it extra good or it sinks to bottom) & versatile. Versatile to use Doesn’t require much, just adding it to food or water (try doing so in am for a better day) The only Product Con: Unlike Avitech’s version of L-Theanine Calming, this formula can be a bit sticky (I would like them to fix this in the formula if possible, am thinking it’s the lectithan) so I often have to wash my hands cuz once wet it’s a bit tacky to the touch. Not a deal breaker though for an item like so many bird owners rely on. I plan to compare it to one other company’s version but been using this for 3 months with success. Tips: It helps to also follow a “less touching/petting/stimulation” rule during homeone season when using this. Sometimes a 5-10 minute alone time to relax helps too, but in conjunction with this & chamomile tea, we have a winning plan for combatting hormonal fluxes in birds. So if I’m gonna review a product that is part of a whole “behavior modification plan” I should explain, responsibly, how we integrate it into that. Alone it does work but don’t expext miracles if you’re not also tackling behavior issues with well known parrot care advice. Like with kids, if u don’t follow thru daily on time outs & quiet time & training adjustments, this alone may not fix it 100%. But it DOES HELP!!! We swear by L-theanine. Also keep in mind it can take days to 2 weeks to see a difference. For us it’s 4-6 days for initial 25% improvement (approx), 2 weeks for a chill that lasts. So start it at the first sign of homeone season and use it daily. Cuz it does get better as you continue to use. No shortcuts & blaming a product cuz that’s all you tried.🤷🏼♀️ Birds are complex creatures. Hope this review helps.

Takes a couple weeks to work but helped tremendously with aggressive behavior
So first off you do need to put a good amount on your birds food. I sprinkle it on her fresh seed mix then mix it up just enough to cover the first few layers of her seed. This helps to make sure she is ingesting the product. I wouldn’t say it makes a big difference during hormonal season but if you have a bird who is always aggressive or trying to tame this product helps. My birds general mood has improved and is more calm. My maroon bellied conure is five and I’m her third owner. I truly believe this product has a made a difference in the bonding process and she didn’t like me when I first brought her home. I truly believe in this product. By just making sure I mix it in enough to cover the first few layers of bird seed has made the jar last longer. I tried putting it on her blueberries but that didn’t work and she refused to eat them so it’s just best to sneak it their food. The jar isn’t filled to the top which was disappointing. I’m still on my first jar and it’s been almost 2 months since I purchased. It will not work right away it needs to build up in your birds system and be maintained. Hope this helps.

It worked for my parrot, but there are other factors
Sometimes these things can be hit or miss. It was successful for me. I change his water every day and mix it in, and I saw results after a week. IF THIS DOESN'T WORK FOR YOU, don't throw it out just yet! It isn't always enough to do just one thing to soothe behavioral/hormonal problems. For my parrot, it helped tremendously that I have a night time cage for him in a quieter room (he was staying up and regurgitating for his toys instead of sleeping). Mine needs 12 hours of sleep minimum or he'll get grumpy. Also, more vegetables in their diet is very important!! If they won't eat vegetables directly, you can bake them into birdie bread, make smoothies, or feed them baby food (remember, NO AVOCADO!! And no onion, eggplant, or mushrooms either :) ) There are a few parrot food products you can buy that have veggies too. As a final note, chamomile tea can also have similar soothing results as this product.

Didn't really help
I purchased this product for a parrot that had begun plucking his feathers. It is a fine, white powder that I give 2X a day. I can't comment on taste other than the bird doesn't seem to mind it. The cost wasn't a factor because I was hoping this would help him. I honestly haven't noticed any difference in my parrot. Unfortunately, he's still plucking, even with getting 2 doses every day.

My bird loves the taste and it has helped her noticeably.
I have a 16-year-old Red Fronted McCaw who is very hormonal right now. I was looking for anything that might help her. I make her mixed vegetables in the morning for breakfast, so I sprinkled it on her vegetables. I had my back to her and I heard her saying wow. She said it over and over the entire time she was eating. It has calmed her and her outbursts aren't as often as they were. She can't wait for breakfast now. She absolutely loves the taste of the formula.

I would recommend just buying the smaller container as I did the first time. There seems to be the same amount of powder in the large container. I’m not sure what to think about this. I would expect a lot more product in a container of that size for such an expensive price! That said.. I dissolve it into a little bit of boiled water then add to their cold freshwater. My umbrella cockatoo is an absolute screaming maniac. However, I’ve noticed it seems to be quite a bit less lately (could be the powder could be the hormones) but I’m going to keep up with this product since I am getting more peace. The manufacturer does not accept returns on this item but they should certainly do something to compensate for the lack of product in such a large container. I use the powder on the cockatoo and an African gray and the smaller container lasted months using every day. I took these photos directly after I opened it.
