Excellent quality product that solves all your standard-frame grip problems. Pachmayr has long since been the authority on aftermarket gun grips -they are the standard that all other grips are judged on, and if you order this for your Government or Commander-sized 1911, you'll immediately see why. As you can imagine, these are easy to install. Quality construction and intelligent design means you got a functional part that enhances the weapon system in a meaningful way. In addition to the functional enhancement these grips add to your 1911, you get some extras on the side -they're made right here in the USA and they give your 1911 a serious look. Beyond that, this is the famously-chosen grip of the United States Marine Corps for their M45 pistols before they picked up a modern contract with Colt to make the M45A1. The original "Frankensteined" M45s are still in service in a decent quantity, so even to this day you'll see MARSOC guys running Pachmayrs on their M45s. Bottom line, this is an outstanding, reliable, and inexpensive way of adding quality front-strap grip on your bare 1911 frame. Things to Consider: As a reminder, you definitely want to coat your frame in oil or preferably grease before installing these grips on your gun. Many people just throw them on the gun, only to find out years later when they remove them that rust has built up under the grips. It rains, there's water, and you sweat on your carry gun -throw some grease under this grip and you're set. Be cautioned, this grip has a little weight to it and adds a little thickness onto the grip profile. This won't be a big deal if you're used to the standard grips, but if you're going from slim grips to this, you'll not only need new bushings and screws, but you'll have to get used to it. As with any rubber-textured grips, this will grip and hang on t-shirts if you're putting this on a carry gun. I will say that it's really not as bad with this as some others I've seen, but that's always a consideration for any carry gun having rubberized grips. Just throw it in the cart already, you won't regret it.

As a weekly range visitor, over the years I have installed Pachmayr grips on several pistols. I bought these for a standard size M1911 frame, 9mm Rock Island Armory pistol to replace the factory smooth wood grips. This is a one-piece, wrap-around rubber grip, providing positive hand control on the front and sides when firing. It took a little patience to install, but eventually it snapped into place perfectly. Resist the temptation to lever the grips into place with a tool, which might damage the rubber. I snapped one side in completely, then tried to stretch the other side into place. It took several tries and even switching the starting side from left to right, but after a few minutes, it just popped right in and allowed the original grip screws to be reinstalled. I suspect that handling the grip loosened up the rubber just by hand-heat transfer. Nonetheless, once installed, the grip fits perfectly, looks great and really helped with proper handling on the firing line. Note to M1911 shooters: I have fired both .45 and 9mm M1911's. The 9mm always seems to impart a little more twist in recoil than the .45 ACP. These rubber grips really make a difference over smooth wood.

For myself they are a great item that makes my 1911 more comfortable to use. Bought 2 more pairs for friends after they used mine

Hands-down the best all-around grip for a stock 1911. If you've got a custom 1911 with a front strap already serrated, checkered, or textured, other grips might be better. I'll admit: There's an elegance to simple panels (rather than a wrap-around grip). But for a box-stock 1911, these wrap-around grips without annoying finger grooves are an excellent addition to increase both weapon retention and physical appearance. I built a custom 1911 about 20 years ago and selected these grips for that build. Partly because I didn't want to have to bother paying to serrate or checker the front strap. I no longer have that custom gun, but I recently got back into the 1911 game with a Ruger SR1911. The Pachmayr grips are still a classic. For a little over twenty bucks, these grips still give you most of the benefits of front strap texturing-- without the added cost or permanency of cutting metal. These grips feel good, they look good and the price is right. If the three sets of grips I recently purchased, these are the ones I decided to keep.
