Worked flawlessly for about 26 days.....
***Update again. Same recurring problem with the new unit. This works but not in the long term. I am going to try another brand. You get what you pay for. I'll spend more now and maybe have better luck. **Update to previously negative review. This company stands behind their product. Seller Customer service was very helpful and responsive. We got the unit working again. It is important to use the power supply that came with the unit and not another power supply, which turned out to be one of the problems I was having. The power supply of the original purchase was defective and this company sent a new unit even though out of the return window. I am very happy again with the quality of sound this unit produces. I highly recommend. Very easy to install and sound quality was excellent after I hooked smart tv up to stereo receiver. I have been using it for approximately 27 days, on a daily basis. Turned it on this AM and it worked just fine for about 1 hour and then sound level dropped so low I could barely hear anything. Turned up volume to max on receiver and the sound was very fuzzy and full of static. Basically not tolerable. Even though I had no problems for almost a month, and the setup had not been touched since the original install, I tried to tinker with the volume and audio controls on the TV. Nothing I did corrected the problem. Finally I turned everything off for 20 minutes and re-started. At that point the excellent sound quality I had before returned. Everything crystal clear and sharp again. This should not happen. I have started a return. I need something that works without constant tinkering for much longer than the time I got with this device. I don't recommend.

So, package delivered, (early), and it does what it promised! (Follow Up)
Hi there. So, I have received the unit in perfect working order, and additionally I am very impressed with the quality and design of your product. By way of introduction, I am an audio engineer and a production professional, currently working in the NYC area. My particular application for the ROOFUL Optical to Coaxial Bi-Directional Converter/Adapter is as follows: Within my career as a Touring Production Manager, and Live Sound Engineer, I have amassed a large library of live recordings on DAT , (Digital Audio Tape), and it is my desire to transfer my library onto hard drive, before the DAT storage medium becomes completely degraded and unusable, without utilizing any analogue steps within the transfer process. The final destination for the media is into the Pro Tools Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). I am utilizing a Sony DTC-ZE 700, (DAT), for tape transport, into a Tascam DA-30 MKII, (DAT), for digital input into my UAD Apollo 16 audio interface, via AES/EBU 3 pin XLR balanced input. This is where your product comes into play, as the Sony DTC-ZE 700 only provides optical digital output, and the Tascam DA-30 MKII only provides for digital input via coaxial or 3 pin XLR AES/EBU digital input. So, as an optical to coaxial converter, the ROOFUL Optical to Coaxial Bi-Directional Converter/Adapter has provided me with an elegant, and cost effective digital interface solution between the Sony DTC-ZE 700, and Tascam DA-30 MKII DAT machines I would absolutely recommend this product to anyone seeking a digital conversion solution where a coaxial to optical, or an optical to coaxial solution is needed. Thank you very much for your timely delivery, your very professional follow up, and product support. Professionally. KB From NYC (PS: I've attached a few photos to illustrate my usage of your product. The photos show, (on the Tascam DA-30 MKII), an A-D-A, (Analogue-Digital-Analogue) interface before adding the ROOFUL Optical to Coaxial Bi-Directional Converter/Adapter to the signal chain, and a D-A, (Digital-Analogue) interface after adding the ROOFUL Optical to Coaxial Bi-Directional Converter/Adapter.) Thank you again!

Don't be in a hurry, but was worth waiting to hook up a speaker
Needed the digital coaxial to optical converter to make the Roku Streambar, or most any new sound bars, work with a tv that had no optical out port. Easy to hook up the separately purchased coax and optical cable plus supplied power source and get the speaker working. This unit is small but the sound seems great coming from the conversion to the speaker with sound bar and side speakers too.The switch that indicates the bi-diraction of the signal was already set to where we needed it, so it couldn't have been simpler. I deducted a star for the time it took in shipping but would add a half star back in if I could, because that was not a big deal to me, just inconvenient. I'd buy another if I ever needed one but most newer tvs come with the right ports these days. We just needed better sound when our old receiver and speakers no longer worked for us on a tv only a few years old that just needed that one thing.

It works great
Why did you pick this product vs others?: Had to adapt an old TV coax audio output to a new sound bar with only optical. This little guy was plug and play to solve this problem. As noted elsewhere in the comments, driving this adapter's power from the sound bar USB works well to avoid a permanent power on condition. Value for money: Seems like good value for the solution.

Better build and quality than other in this category (EDIT)
The one I had before this seemed cheap and had problems with the power plug almost immediately. Had 2 of those and they both are trash now. Bought this for the living room tv, very pleased with the build. Metal framed box, very sturdy. Plug in points appear stronger, more stable with no drop outs from bad joints, etc. Rugged little box adapter from optical to analog, takes up very little real estate. EDIT Still no problems with it but 1 thing that would improve this box and that would be to put all of the connections to a side. As is there are wires coming out two sides which isn't really a big deal but it would sit nicer on top of our tv cabinet with all of the wires trailing off behind it instead of wiring that must be looped around from the front of it. There is also a slight delay issue that I have corrected mostly using the delay parameters in our tv sound settings. Other than that though there is no issues. The build quality is what you would want...sturdy, metal-not plastic housing, solid connections. It stays on 24/7 and works always with no problems.

Stopped working
The product worked great, except adapter cord that you need to plug in is extremely short and there is no on/off switch. Sound quality when used with my Korg Kronos was greatly improved from the normal analog cords. The problem is when I buy music equipment, it has always been built well and to last. This is not. I may have bumped it against a music stand or it may have fallen on the carpet from about 3 feet, I'm not sure. But I bought it in August and it stopped working in October and the return window closed in September. Since it is relatively inexpensive, it is not a great loss but I did this review to warn people to be very careful with it. I re-ordered it along with all the cords for hooking up my keyboard. By checking all the connections I found that all the original cords are still working and the original adapter with the very short cord is still working but the original unit is not working. I now have the new one sitting on top of a small towel now to prevent it from moving or getting bumped etc. I guess I will see if I caused it's demise or if this one also dies in two months. For those who want to hook up a keyboard to use it's digital out - I can only tell you how I hooked up the Korg Kronos - using Hosa OPM-315 from Sweetwater plugged one end into the SPDIF out and the other end into the SPDIF in on the Rooful and put the input switch to SPDIF. Then I plugged a 3 ft Coax cable from Amazon into the Coax out of the Rooful and then into the Coax input of my Scarlett Focusrite. I opened the settings on Focusrite Control and changed the sample rate to 48 kHz and clock source to SPDIF. You have to control the keyboard output volume using the Master slider, as the main keyboard volume is only for the analog outputs. If you use Logic, open the project settings - audio, and change the sample rate to 48 kHz as well.

SPDIF (optical digital) to Analog converter - good device.
I used this to convert an optical digital signal from our LG TV to two RCA inputs on our stereo. (From the stereo, I connected speakers in the kitchen so we can listen to the news while making dinner.) The first unit worked fine for a few months, then I started to hear static that wasn't part of the program we were listening to. So I purchased another converter, thinking I'd use the 18-month warranty period to return the first one. The second one came, and I tested it for a week or so. It worked fine. Then, before returning the original unit, I wanted to make sure it still exhibited the problem. I plugged it back in, and it has worked perfectly ever since. Apparently the first time 'round, one of the connections wasn't plugged in firmly enough. So even though I could probably have returned one of the units, I'm keeping both of them, with one as a backup. The units are priced low enough that it's not a problem. As for ROOFULL, I have to say they seem really concerned about having completely happy customers. They appear to want to make things right if something is wrong. Their willingness to make sure I'm happy seems to be something they take seriously. I'd definitely buy from them again.
