Reinforced part of the hitch installed facing up or down?

I sent mine back, because it was poorly made.

Do i need to have a trailer hitch installed on my car first?

You will need a 2 inch hitch on your car rated to handle the weight of the carrier plus the weight of what you will be carrying

How far off the ground is it?

On my 2004 Toyota it is 12 inches to the ground. I have checked and you can get a receiver that will raise up to 6 inches if you need the additional raise. Paul Jennings
