He draws em' in!
Many of the bad reviews I've read of Keepon expect him to function like the $30K "real" Keepon that was designed to be a therapy robot for special needs children. That's just not realistic. No, he's not as interactive as the 'real' one, but kids love him.I'm a computer tech & teacher at a small k-12. Keepon lives on the corner of my desk and gets touched by all 200 students every week. They LOVE him and can't get enough. They ask me to turn on music for him and love finding out which songs he "likes" best. Every one of the kids does this, from the kinders all the way to the High School Seniors.I also use him in my basic computer class to show how technology really can reach out and help people.I've had my keepon for about two years. He's standing up to the excessive use very well, cleans easily and shows no signs of stopping. My only complaint is the design of the battery compartment stinks on ice. I keep him plugged in with an adapter to get around that.Overall I think he's well worth the money, kids of all ages love him, he stands up to heavy use and is still just as cute as ever.**UPDATEm AUG 2013**: My Keepon finally died. I may just have to get a new one to sit on my desk for the coming school year. The students will be so disappointed to not have him around. The broken one will still serve a great resource in my computer class when we dissect him.

I am in LOVE!!!!
I hardly ever write reviews but I couldn't wait to write this one. I just got this little guy today in the mail and I am absolutely THRILLED with him. First, to those that say he doesn't work as well as the original: It's a TOY, people. By the way some people complained I was expecting to buy a really cute paperweight....but I felt it was worth the money even for that. However, it works great! Yes, it stops every 8 seconds or so to listen to the music, but if you pick a song with a clear beat he does all the little fancy moves from the original You Tube video. Also, he does respond to touch, but you have to find the tiny little button located on what would be the right and left hips (lol) and navel area. If you press the right places he whirls around and looks at you, making cute little beeping noises. I would not recommend this as something to bring to work as it does make some noise, but it is perfectly fine for at home and I wasted at least and hour playing with it today. I don't think he would be that great for a small child, but he is a delightful little diversion from the hum drum of daily life.

You Only Had One Job Keepon...DANCE! - Cute looks, Bad mechanics...
Very adorable in looks but its mechanics don't really function the way I would expect it too. The cute dancing is okay but the repetitive stops and "analyzing the rhythm" occurs too often and outweighs what is potentially there: an adorable dancing robot. The movements of Keepon are also a bit rusty and stiff and doesn't move the way it does in the ads/commercials. I got this for someone as a gift and she really liked it at first just because of how cute it looked. I was excited as well, waiting 2 months for this thing to come in and was kind of disappointed. I would recommend this product for those who just want a decor item just placed in your room for showing or something. I personally believe it's not worth your money or time, especially if it costs $60+ U.S dollars and over. If they lower the price, it would be considerable. Again, very cute, but frequent pauses and stops during dancing and stiff/limited movements can kill a potential good mood during a song. I probably spent more time sitting in anticipation to see what it will do (when it pauses to "analyzing the rhythm") than actually enjoying it dance.P.S. Did you know that it takes 8 double A batteries to get this thing running?

Great for children with special needs...and their families! :)
My whole family loved this toy! I bought it for my niece, not actually knowing that it was designed by teams that research autism and development. I loaded it with batteries the night before Christmas, so that when my niece opened it, it would be ready to do. Everyone had so much fun singing to the Keepon, poking him, playing music. My niece loves the cause/effect aspect. Great toy and developmental "aide" -- for anyone really!

My experience with My Keepon
I initially liked My Keepon but it quickly stopped working, I didn't even get a chance to drain the 8 batteries it takes before it started tweaking out and doing crazy things. When it was working I loved the dance mode. Keepon listens a second or 2 and then busts a move to whatever beat your laying down for about 10 seconds then repeats the process.Touch mode is undeniably cute but not everyone can get into poking a prodding a little robot.

Can't keep a beat
If there are iTunes plugins that can determine the bpm (beats per minute) of songs, why can't this? After testing it with 20 songs, all of which have strong, repetitive drum parts, not once did it move in time with the music. If it doesn't benefit from listening to music playing near it, why does it even have a microphone?

Nice novelty item but not worth more than $15
I bought this "toy" for my two grandkids (ages 6 and 2) and they seemed to enjoy it for a while but soon lost interest. As a novelty item it might be worth as much as $15 (about what I paid for it) but not much more. One major downside is that it takes a lot of batteries and the batteries don't last long.

Cool Toy, Fun to Hack
This is a fun toy for just about anyone, it behaves exactly as described. For those into robotics or electronics, there are easy instructions provided by the manufacturer (on github) on how to attach the device to an Arduino and have full control over it.

The perfect gift for my wife (and possibly children if they manage to get a look in?)
I bought this for my wife’s birthday after she saw ‘the’ video on YouTube and thought he was cute / hilarious. It was meant to be something of a jokey present but turned out to be the star of the show on her Birthday.Things of note:-The Keepon was a lot larger than I had thought he would be (have uploaded a photo of him next to a £10 note for reference (sorry couldn’t think of anything else?))-Keepon takes 8 x AA batteries (not included) - with no mains power alternative-Keepon comes with a basic instruction manual (all you need really), and a small sticker-Keepon has two modes – dance and touch (one where he dances, the other where he is responsive to touch)-Note ‘touch’ zones are really buttons so can feel a little clunky (but for the price, this is kind of to be expected)-Not recommended for children age 0 – 3 (states this on box)-Keepon is easy to use and once batteries are inserted there’s no stopping him (until you turn him off!)After inserting the batteries my wife instantly pressed the ‘dance’ mode – and played a number of songs to Keepon and we all watched him dance, it was hilarious. I thought my wife would tire of him but after 30 minutes he was still going strong and so was she trying to find other songs for him to dance to.I have uploaded an image of her current set up, again you should hopefully get a sense of the size of Keepon from this. For Keepon to work best the songs really do need to have a strong and obvious beat. Keepon will dance then every 30 seconds or so will stop for a second, and listen to try and pick up any changes in the pace or beat of the song, then continue to dance.Touch mode is fun but after 10 minutes of poking and prodding Keepon we think we’ve exhausted him of all his moves. The touch mode is fun but the longevity of this product is in the dance mode.Certainly not a practical present, but fun nonetheless. Would recommend for adults that like the Keepon Youtube video, and children in general. My wife loves her Keepon (although she doesn’t use him all the time).

hit and miss
This toy is unbearably cute! it dances and squeaks when you poke it! My boyfriend was disappointed in it as he had see the 'keepon' clips on youtube and that is a lot better but is computer controlled and exponentially more expensive! If you buy this make sure you arent expecting too much... it dances but does stop to 'listen' to the music and works best with loud music with a decent beat (think pokerface!). It also auto powers off after a few songs so you cant have it continually dancing. In interactive mode you cant leave it alone as it responds very cutely. If you do leave it alone it falls asleep. The base is fairly bulky but does mean you dont have to worry about knocking it over. It also eats batteries ~8hrs per set and doesn't come with a mains adapter (maplin £15 - similar price to rechargeable batteries)... Is it worth ~£40? I'd probably have to say no if i'm being honest, but I have fallen in love with the little thing and cant bear to send it back so he lives by our stereo!

Happiness in a box
I waited for months to make up my mind whether to get this little robot, or not. Decided to go for it. Well, he turned up today :) I initially thought I'd done something wrong after putting the batteries in (8 AA-type), because he wouldn't start! Read the instructions again after pulling out, and replacing the batteries, and, to my delight, I found there was a switch to be set in the 'ON' position. Switched on, and he instantly came to life.I've had him dancing to The Seekers - an album which is not known for big beats under any circumstances. So he's very responsive. I love the little fella. He's great :) He stands next to one of my audio speakers.

Be ready to spend more money!
Our daughter does like the Keepon we got her for Christmas. It arrived in good time and is well enough made, if not particularly robust and not really as sophisticated as the adverts like to suggest. There is a certain cuteness element, but that wears off pretty soon. When I was a lad, we made sock puppets which fascinated us for longer and were far, far cheaper. The packaging has to be cut to pieces in order to get the little blighter out, so I'm not at all sure how we would send it back if there is a problem. It requires a hand full of batteries and do bear in mind that there is no mains adaptor supplied by the manufacturers (a bit stingy of them), so that will mean another purchase. The 3.5mm plug on the adaptor we bought from Maplins wasn't long enough to reach into the unit, so make sure you get one which is long enough: good luck with that!All-in-all, it gets an "er, well, is that it?" from me.

Best gadget ever!!
I purchased this after seeing the EDF Energy adverts, I had seen it on another site for around £40 and thought that was too much to pay but £28 seemed much better. I was so excited when it arrived in the post, I had it delivered to my office and no-one got any work done that afternoon! He now lives next to my computer at home, he seems to enjoy jamming to Bob Marley and other reggae songs but I think that's because the beat is clear and he can follow it well. If you put on drum & bass or house it gets confused easily and keeps stopping to try and get the beat. As for the touch mode, that is just the cutest thing ever! He plays peek-a-boo and likes being tickled, and loves a pat on the head too! Overall I think this is a wise investment, guaranteed to bring hours of enjoyment to anyone!
