The original Japanese version was created almost 30 years ago. Parasyte seems to come from the creator’s thinking that humanity must have judged something amiss. 個人的にデルレイからの出版を希望していた作品のNo.1が、この『寄生獣』。英訳版は過去にもあったものの、訳が今一つだった上、（当時としてはやむを得なかったのだろうが）左右反転のためミギーが左手に寄生しているわ、登場人物の名前が違っているわ（新一が「Shin」、ミギーが「Lefty」なのは譲るとしても、田村玲子の「タマラ＝ロックフォード」はないんでないかい？）で、結局買う気になれなかった。その点本書は、米国人に分かりにくい部分も内容を安易に変えたりせず、意訳した部分についても巻末の「translation notes」で改めて解説するなど、単なるスプラッタなホラーではなく、「名作」として原作の内容を正確に伝えようとする意欲が感じられる。値段も、ワイド版1冊相当のボリュームを考えればかなりお得。全体としての評価は今後を待たねばならないだろうが、少なくとも、十分に期待感を抱かせてはくれた。ただ、ところどころに誤訳が見られるのが残念。
