    An extra bit of safety

Very simple to attach to helmet. Bit of patience required for connecting to app but works once connected. Just keep trying and it does connect. I have it as a tail light and a brake light, so always on and gets brighter when braking. Very sensitive to braking so have it on the least sensitive setting. Can be a pain to turn on and off. You have to tap it twice but I find it takes quite hard taps to work. I use the app to switch it off but again tricky, i find you have to hold down the power off function to get this to work.Very well made piece of kit. The magnet is not big and doesn't look out of place when not using light. The light itself is quite bulky but not heavy and still looks good to.The tail light is bright and the brake light very bright so on my dark commutes it's extra visibility.I haven't bothered with the subscription so can't comment on the crash call function.

    Good, but not great.

The Cosmo Connected motorcycle light isn't currently available in NZ and, as a cautious new rider on a Cam-Am Ryker with very low-set brake lights, I wanted to make sure that I was going to be highly visible on the road so I got this unit (at a great price - just over GBP65) and had it shipped to me. On arrival I was surprised to see that I had been sent a unit in Italian packaging, but luckily that wasn't an issue: There are multi-lingual instructions on Cosmo Connected's website. The fitting process was simple: Clean helmet, affix stick-on magnetic base and wait 24 hours, charge unit for 2.5 hours, download app, pair unit with phone, set preferences (blink type, etc.) and off you go. The unit doesn't fit perfectly - there's a slight gap around the edges of the unit's rubber gasket when fitted to my HJC RPHA 70ST, so we'll see in time if that impacts the unit's weather-tightness. (Although this is potentially my fault for not finding a more suitable fixing position.)One of the other reviews said that there was no charging indicator - which is true - but the app will give you the battery level, and that review also said that the double-tap to power on and off is problematic - which is true to a point: If I double tap and wait two to three seconds, the unit will invariably turn on and off as expected. (It's taken me a few days to work that out...)I have my unit set to be on all of the time with increased brightness under braking and, according to friends and colleagues that have seen me pottering around on my trike, it seems to work. It also looks like there's some sort of subscription offering, and I'll explore that in due course. So, some minor negatives - but generally speaking I've had a positive experience so far.

More Uses Than It Is Intended For

I purchased this to fit on my helmet. With a broken neck I found it difficult to justify the extra weight on my helmet. So, it is residing on the motorcycle top case for now.It still adds extra illumination but smaller versions would fit nicely on the heels of my motorcycle boots, like those kids shoes that light up.Some reviews state that the Cosmo is difficult to function yet, following the instructions it works fine for me but I suppose you cannot see it function on the rear of your helmet and it has turned itself off. In fact, it may have run out of charge instead like rechargeable intercoms do.Unless you hard wire it into an Arduino with a permanent live feed, it will continue to discharge.Mine has worked fine out of the box for around 80 pounds GB.I would say it does lack some form of securing it to its magnetic base say, a lanyard or you may find it missing!I could probably make something similar so much cheaper from my electronics kit.I got it on a whim half expecting it to be rubbish(negative reviews) and then tearing it down to get it to work.If you need the extra visibility at night, I recommend a white helmet with a Cosmo attached(unless you have a spinal injury like me).I don't go in for all this looking like law enforcement lark.Your riding skills should be enough to get you seen and heard and not that much illumination someone knocks you off for the sake of it.My accident had nothing to do with my riding illumination.I was riding perfectly legal. It was a hit-and-run driver that law enforcement turned a blind eye to, probably one of their relatives!
