The good: it makes a great nightlight for our 2-year-old's (now 6 year old) room. The light is a nice blue color that feels like "night" and is just the right brightness. I don't think he really pays much attention to the fish anymore, but as a little-er guy he liked them. It runs pretty much every night, and lasts for a bit over a year.The bad, is that it does only last a bit over a year. Once the bulb goes out you're done -- there's no way for the user to change the bulb. It's an odd size bulb and completely wired in, so it's not an option. So if you like it you're going to be buying a new one when the first one wears out. But, they're cheap.The other thing, which might be more of an issue for some, is they're not exactly silent. There's been variation among the 3 we've had, but you do hear a bit of motor noise. It's not that harsh and not all that loud, but it is there. I guess it depends on the kid whether that's a problem or not. fortunately for ours it has not been. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A happy Grandson! *by W***! on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on April 12, 2013* I purchased this aquarium lamp for my four year old grandson. I'd gotten him one (another brand purchased somplace else!) two years ago and he turned it on each night when going to bed. He would watch the fish, etc., swim around until he fell asleep after which his father snuck into his room and turned it off. When his first one stopped working his parents he found it difficult to fall asleep without being able to watch the fish swim so his Grandma came to the rescue and found a better one through Amazon. Within a couple of days his new aquarium lamp was on his bedside table and he was once again able to slumber into dreamland with no problems.The aquarium lamp has beautiful colors and it's quiet when running. Even though the fish move in a continuous circle, it's still enjoyable to watch. He loves our real aquarium in the living room and gets excited when when hold him up and he is able to "talk" to the fish. So we got this for Christmas for his bedroom, and it was a big hit! My 3 and 6 year old daughters loved it too, and wished we had gotten one for them! The fish rotate around the aquarium in a revolving fashion, and the light comes out a blue-ish hue and is brighter than I expected. It still works well as a new "night light" for his room- we just have it set up across the room from his bed. He has treated it like an 18 month old boy can- dropped it, pounded on it, carried it around- on Christmas day, and it held up to his abuse. It is now safe on a dresser, but I am impressed it held up to the pounding.
