Countries of the World: Our World in Pictures : DK: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Fantastic Book - I was looking for a geography book I used to have as a child but unfortunately it was lost I discovered this book and it's the closest to the book I had previously obviously it's more updated which is a lot better and I love it lots of facts about the countries but also on the back pages, it include little islands and facts about them that aren't common knowledge to everyone. Such as great book to gain more knowledge about the world. I would recommend 100%. Review: Lovely book - informative and child friendly. - This is a great book! I bought it as a Christmas present to my class of 6 and 7 year olds who are Geography mad. They devoured it! They loved the facts and the pictures are clear and interesting. Definitely recommend for children who love learning about different counties.

Wonderful!
This book is a wonderful cultural journey 'from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe', as claimed by the blurb, journeying across all seven continents - even Antarctica is designated a page of its own - and covering every country, attempting to describe the culture, peoples, cuisine, geography and history of each, albeit somewhat superficially in some cases. Certain nations are covered very extensively for a children's book on two pages with plenty of photographs; others are given only half or a third of a page, with the Pacific nations positively crammed into two pages at the very back! However, even in these cases, the crucial statistics - of country area, population, predominant language/s and capital - are listed, alongside the most famed objects, dishes or other cultural artefacts of the country. Overseas territories, the Arctic, flags of the world and complete geographical and political maps are also given due attention. However, it is notable that countries are not listed according to their typical cultural classification - for example, Poland is listed before the Central European countries and a full ten pages away from its nearest cultural neighbours, Czechia and Slovakia, in Eastern Europe. Overall, this is one of the best-presented books I own on the subject, certainly among the crème de la crème for children. To attempt to cover the entirety of the globe is an ambitious project, but Dorling Kindersley accomplished it as well as anyone could have done, and I can recommend 'Countries, Cultures, People & Places' wholeheartedly.

Good for children
Not loads of information for each country, but it’s ok for children under 11 I’d say, my granddaughter is 7 and she loves it

GREAT Christmas gift for my grandnephew!
My grandnephew (age 7) is fascinated by the countries of the world--their flags, weather, cities, famous landmarks, wildlife, everything. And he LOVES this book--a Christmas gift-. So does his younger sister; he's been reading parts of it to her as well as sharing the countless pictures. Huge success as a present! I live in the US, so being able to order things for my family there from AmazonUK is a gift to me as well.
