There are times when I get an itchy scalp and the odd spot. It seems that this shampoo, when occasionally used, can help a lot with both. Firstly, so little is needed to get a decent lather. I tend to wash it into my scalp whilst in the shower first, then wash the rest of my body. That allows it to stay on the head and I imagine that will be beneficial, rather than a quick wash on and off. Depending on how severed my head is itching, or having a number of spots, I will vary using this from once a week to about three times when it is bad. It did take the more regular use about a month before all the spots and the itching reduced significantly. Two issues I have noted......You really need to appreciate the smell of the coal tar-based shampoo, it is strong and it can be noticeable after rinsing. The cost, it is expensive, but I counter that somewhat by only using the minimum that I need to manage my condition. I would not use it too often, both for cost reasons and also that it notes the suggested use is for once or twice per week. Please see my photos. If there is one consideration it is this....Be careful if you leave the plastic bottle in place where it could drop onto to a hard floor. The flip top lid is made from a type of hard, but brittle, plastic where it can crack and break off. In regular use it is absolutely fine. But I have, over time, broken a couple of lids until I figured it was related to earlier falls. The bottle itself is made from a very flexible plastic, as expected. Overall, most useful, understanding it is expensive and does have a lingering strong smell. It has been most effective for my needs and lathers very well. Very much recommended. But, as in my case, it did take around four weeks of use to make a sustained and good difference.

As I girly that suffers with psoriasis on my scalp and skin this stuff is amazing!!! I tried it back in 2006 and it was very thick and was a tad stinky. So I went onto t.gel and drs also prescribed me Dan’s razor but my scalp just always seems dry and flaky. However I have been ordering this now for the last 3 months and my scalp is pretty much the best it’s been in years!! This seems a much better consistency and doesn’t smell as bad as it used to. I’m literally just using this instead of my prescription shampoo as it’s just brilliant. My holy grail right now.

This shampoo really works and has helped my scalp a lot, it is much less itchy and I only use it about once every two weeks. The only downside is that it does smell quite bad and even the bottle itself makes our cupboard quite stinky so we keep it in a plastic bag.

Used t gel for years up until recently. But they’ve removed the coal tar so is useless for my hair and leaves it really limp and greasy. One wash with this shampoo all itchiness on scalp has gone, no flakes and shiny soft hair. Love it!!!!!

Works well on psoriasis. good value.

Only used a couple of times so can't say if there has been any improvement. Lathers well and nice smell.

This is a great product. I bought this Polytar Scalp Shampoo as I can no longer get my usual Neutrogena T/Gel Therapeutic Coal Tar shampoo as they have stopped making it. This product works just as good the Neutrogena one.

I'm a former TGel user who was devastated when they stopped doing the proper brown coal tar formulation. I tried the new one and started to flake and feel the dreaded itch again. I tried a pine tar shampoo that both stank to high heaven and did nothing. Then I tried polytar. Sweet blessed relief at last. It as usual took a couple of weeks to deal with every trace but I am flake and itch free again AND it smells nice! Not just bearable or I can live with it after a conditioner is added but genuinely nice fragrance. I highly recommend lather, rinse, repeat as it's not easy to bubble up so you can be tempted to use too much - just a small dribble on the first wash is enough to clean things up enough to really lather the next time. I was worried the small bottle wouldn't last long but I think it's been two months before I even thought about reordering so that's not bad for a thick head of hair and I use it 3-4 times a week. Highly recommend it and for anyone else who is wandering in the wilderness looking for an alternative to the proper TGel this one is what you're after! Go polytar!
