illy Arabica Selection Etiopia Whole Bean Coffee

These beans make an excellent espresso lungo. There is minimal acidity and bitterness in the brew. These are a little expensive but the Illy brand is consistent and great.

I got hooked on Ethiopian coffee from a small company that only does small batches by hand..and they only did a limited run of their Ethiopian coffee .....so had to go searching to get my fix Landed on this from illy and it is I guess the next best thing, Not magical like the other but still very good. My first two orders arrived fine (think they came USPS). My next two orders were delivered by Amazon and horribly dented, I am not talking small dents...more like major side swipe giant dents with a couple small dents as well. One came in the plastic bag which had been placed in a box and the one today just in a plastic bag with no box, So obviously someone knew the first one was dented and threw it in a box...Both kind of in the same area too, I read some one else who said "its just a dent" but still the carnage on a pressurized food item is unsettling & off putting, On a premium item too.

SO much better than the original Illy bean. This one is smooth and tasty. Not at all the burnt taste many coffees get. We use this in an espresso machine. Bundle of 6 lasts two of us about a month, maybe slightly more, so we appreciate the sizing.

This coffee reminds me of those boutique coffee beans that have a bit of a citric taste, almost savory taste to it. It's not my choice for everyday coffee but I enjoy having it around for when I want a different taste.

I love this coffee, but they keep shipping it without the lid/cap. Once you open the pull-top, you have no way lid for the can. This has happened multiple times, so maybe it is intentional, but it is very annoying. I like the packaging (can with the screw-top lid)… if only they shipped it with the lid. Guess I need to find another source.

It tastes okay, but nothing special. And it's about double the price of for example HEB's Colombian decaf which I probably prefer also taste wise. It's difficult to find decaf that can rival regular beans. Apparently the decaffination process also takes away a lot of the nice taste of coffee. I've even tried small, local roasters, but it is still not the same. Some sellers try to compensate by roasting darker, but that just adds more bitterness, not taste, as far as I am concerned. So nothing per se against Illy, I mean they have a stellar reputation. and probably the regular tastes great. But this one is not one I'd recommend.

Having tried several illy varieties, I found Ethiopia to be the most delicate and distinctive. It has a lighter, more floral profile than Classico or Colombia, and offers a brighter, more elegant cup. A very good option for anyone who prefers a subtler and more aromatic style of coffee.
