What is the distance between the centre of the screw holes?

Distance between holes is 45mm, not 35mm

Can this be used within the wet environment of the shower itself, i.e. screwed to the splashback?

I would guess so as we fixed ours above the sink in the bathrooms to stop the soap getting mushy (as with young kids they tend to make a mess). We drilled them into the tiled walls and wouldn't be with out them now, they look good and helps to make the soap lasts longer (saving money is always a good thing in my book!).
