Perfect for a person just starting out in coin collecting or precious metals...

I thought that I would begin to invest in gold or silver. This book helped me to know what I should do.

Easy read! Explains the fundamentals and the different ways to buy as well as explains a lot of the different silver vocabulary. Up to date still in 2014.

This book is more of a general read about precious metals, as opposed to a how-to/instructional book about buying and investing in precious metals, as the title implies. A large portion of the book is devoted to the history of precious metals going back centuries, including laws and presidential actions regarding precious metals over the decades. It is not "The Essential Guide" to investing in precious metals. If you are seeking one book, or a main/central book, to learn about how to get starting in precious metals investing, do not get this book. You will need to do more reading. It can be one of your supplemental books in your quest to learn about precious metals, but no more. It is actually a pretty good book for what it is. It is just that is does not contain sufficient/appropriate material to be called the "Essential Guide". I purchased the book based on the title. Like I said, it is not a bad book per se, but since I was fooled into buying it based on the title, I gave it only 2 stars.

I knew nothing about precious metals when I bought this book. The world of precious is still complex, but, I now know more than I did. I recommend this book without reservation.

Very informative book on precious metal

I found that the book doesn't really specify all that is needed for an interested person to know adout how to start investing in precious metal. Regarding the service and speed of delivery it came on time.

Nice reading for the "rookies" in precious metals. Valuable informations, presented in a simple and concise manner. A little bi too US-focused... But that's something acceptable...

Great book, I'd recommend it an addition to any Contrarian Investor's library.

An excellent review on the history of precious metals, very good historic reference tables but I was expecting more profound analysis of the uses and strategies of their use as investment tools.
