I would recommend cleaning your flute after playing and setting it on the stand. Also there the potential for the flute to collect dust if not in use and that could affect the mechanisms. Where this stand shines is that is ultra-portable. It easily fits in a pocket or case and it’s ready to use in seconds. Love this design. The trade off with it being so small and portable is that it isn’t the most sturdy stand I’ve seen. It won’t topple over, but if you bump into it it will wiggle around. Don’t hesitate to buy this.

**Q: Do the feet have rubber, plastic, or felt? Would it be safe on hardwood?**
A: The legs are metal, and covered with plastic. It would be fairly safe on hardwood, as the stand, along with a flute, wouldn't be excessively heavy. If you wanted additional peace of mind, you could attach a little bit of felt to the legs. It's a remarkably sturdy stand, for something so compact.

**Q: does anyone know where i can find a "curved-head jointed," bass flute stand!? - an alto flute stand doesn't really work very well!! :-(**
A: Have you looked at the Hercules line of stands?

**Q: What is the material of which the shaft is made ?**
A: It appears to be a hard plastic.  It's a matte finish and is rigid and fairly hard, but it doesn't seem to be capable of scratching the flute.  The folding feet are definitely metal, and are clearly a different material of the shaft.
