## Description

AmpliFi AFI-HD-UK HD Kit Home Mesh WiFi System

Review: Restores your faith in wifi! - I'm a 70yr old grandad with an interest (but unfortunately very little skill!) in computers - so forgive me if some of the terms I use are wrong. My home has decent broadband speeds (30Mbps) provided by Sky Broadband but had been plagued for years by ongoing wifi transmission problems despite multiple hard-wired Apple Time Capsules with areas of repeated drop-out, Apple TVs refusing to go on-line and poor performance from logged-on devices such as Ring Doorbell, Hive, etc. These persisted despite many on-line assistance calls. I then chanced upon a very knowledgable Apple software team leader who recommended this mesh router system and with nothing to lose decided to invest in it. The Amplifi Ubiquiti system comes with a small neat attractive router (roughly half the size of an Apple Time Capsule) which has a digital display and 4 ethernet output ports and two distant-plug-in auxiliary units. I used the iPhone Amplifi app. for the set up and as the Apple Manager had recommended, switched off the wifi capability of the Sky modem/ router to avoid a possible wifi conflict. 'Though useless with software, by following the instruction package and the app., I got the small main router (ground floor) on-line within 5 minutes! The first floor extension plugged in and went on-line in about 90 seconds with a 62% signal and a second floor extension at 50%. I was also pleased to see that the extension sitings at home, 'though on different floors, gave the recommended parallel rather than serial device configuration. Result - wifi area much improved; no drop outs; speed maintained or slightly improved; all devices working properly. Eight weeks on, all my devices are still working properly, my Hive and Ring devices seem more reliable, there's a good signal in the garden and there have been no drop-outs. I'm really happy with the system! The Amplifi iPhone app. seems pretty versatile too and if you want you can check your wifi speed, set up guest channels and switch individual devices on and off (useful I guess if you want to get the kids off to bed). My (3) Time Capsules and a hub had connected directly to the (4) ethernet ports on the old modem/ router Sky supplied and I was put off upgrading to Sky Q as its engineers couldn't give me a solution guaranteeing that these would be fully compatible with its single ethernet output port. I guess this system might be an ideal solution for that. All in all - for me - its been a good investment, was easy to set up, has considerably improved my wifi system and looks as neat and attractive as the Apple devices surrounding it.
Review: The best...but expensive - Very good system, covers a 4 floor victorian house with thick walls. Very easy to setup and has updates regularly, that can be applied by using the touch screen on the Main transmitter/router. Blisteringly fast.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The best...but expensive

### ⭐⭐ LCD screen failed 2 months outside of (1 year) warranty.
*by C***S on 12 July 2021*

If, like me, you want to have reliable networking gear then avoid buying anything from Ubiquiti. I'd also avoid this seller if you want decent after care service. For the first 14 months of ownership I would (and did indeed) recommend this product to anyone who wanted a wireless mesh system. It's easy to setup, is neat and offers good WiFi coverage/performance. However, 2 months after the (1 year) warranty ended, the LCD screen refused to work and is constantly cycling through the various options, rendering one aspect of this router totally useless. Admittedly this is not the primary feature of the router, but it is a distinguishing and heavily marketed feature nonetheless. However, the more important point is that, for a router of this cost (and it is not the cheapest option amongst its peers) I would not expect components to fail so soon. Furthermore, I have discovered other people in Ubiquity's community forums who've had this problem, suggesting there was a faulty batch. Networking gear needs to be near 99.99% reliable. If the LCD screen has gone what faith do I have that other components aren't also about to fail? LinITX (the seller) have cited I'm out of warranty and that's it, Ubiquity have said the same, and both companies have washed their hands of it. Maybe I'm old school but I would have expected better customer service for a product that was 2 months beyond the warranty and one I would expect to last at least 5 years. My (free) Plusnet router has been faultless for longer. Anyway, maybe you'll have better luck. But I personally wouldn't be purchasing any equipment from any company that has no interest in looking after its customers, nor one that seemingly can't make reliable networking equipment. If you want good, reliable network equipment then stick to companies that know what they're doing (Draytek, Netgear).
