Asterix and Obelix used to be written by René Goscinny and illustrated by Albert Uderzo. But when Goscinny died in 1977. I don't know if the stories that were made after that were written by Uderzo or if other people were involved. Noone really "got it" what actually made Asterix work. The personalities are absolutely key. It used to be absolutely brilliant. But this Asterix and Son one is an example of how bad it can get. The characters have these weird outbursts, with heated red faces and everything. I guess they tried to make the characters less bland. But they didn't get it. That actual personalities don't match the old original ones at all. Not even close. It's a totally different experience. I found this absolutely painful to read as bedtime stories to my kids. It literally hurt my brain. Sigh.

I was expecting it with hard cover but the book is grand and is the one I wanted so... happy days 😁
