Keep it on a solid surface to allow the heat to dissipate better. Don't place it on your carpet. Put it on a table or something with good airflow. What I do to compensate for the longer charging times is to have enough batteries on hand that I always have some ready and charged to swap into my devices while I charge the depleted ones. It's common and easy to find LSD (Low Self Discharge) NiMH batteries and I highly recommend people only purchase batteries with low self discharge. For the brand of batteries we use, EBL, we find that the claimed discharge over time is accurate. We use our batteries and swap them often enough that we don't know what that figure would be over very long time frames, but it will vary based on brand and quality. I highly recommend EBL batteries with this charger. They have some of the highest capacities available and a 1,200 cycle count which is above average for their capacity. Well worth the cost and they don't cost much more than cheapo ones. I expect them to last close to the claimed 1,200 cycles, partly thanks to the low charging currents offered by this charger. You can check and measure capacity and charge level with a multi-meter and some electronics knowledge (which I have). Overall this charger is great! Word of caution: don't keep the batteries inserted for long periods of time after they complete charging. A few hours or waiting overnight to take them out isn't a big deal breaker. But don't leave them in their for days or weeks on end. This charger is not designed to handle that and could lead to damage or reduced cycle count. This is also clearly laid out in the manual. Does it mean don’t charge just 2 at once? I thought you could charge any number of batteries.** A: I'll try to back up DevlinPaddock here, as some folks still seem confused. Simply put, the good people at Powerbowl are explaining that some 'other' manufacturers attempt to make a bit more profit by using fewer parts/charging paths in 'their' chargers. However, this forces compromises on the user (you). Instead of 8 -independent- charging slots, the other guys provide 4 Pairs* of slots. These 'paired' slots MUST be used in pairs - they won't work with only 1 battery in them. And, as mentioned before, if the Pair of batteries are not IDENTICAL in both capacity & charge level (when you put them in) one of the two can be Overcharged (which is bad.) The Powerbowl Charger eliminates these issues entirely. It's got 8 Independent charging slots, meaning that you can charge 1-8 batteries at a time AND you can mix & match sizes - in any order you see fit. Powerbowl really has your back here. It worked for my other batteries. I had rayovac, energizer, and Duracell batteries. Some of them were defective so it didn’t charge all of them. But if they are good. The charger does work for other batteries. **Q: This charger input 220v?** A: It doesn't run directly off 120 or 220. It runs off the 5 Volts from the USB output of a laptop or USB power adapter. So if your adapter is 220, it will be fine. So whether your adapter is 120 0r 220 both will be putting out only 5 volts through the USB output **Q: What does the flashing yellow light mean, or the dull green light?** A: Hello. I am looking at the instructions. First of all use only rechargable batteries. There is NO yellow lights. The indicator lights are Red means batteries are charging. When indicator lights turn green batteries are charged. When batteries are defective, wore out, or inserter in charger the wrong way, the indicator blinks red.
